It was seriously mindblowing. How to convey an amazing story in just 6 minutes.

The animation was INSANE, sakuga all the way.

This deserves a 9/10 from my side, i watched it like 20 times already. Goes into my top 10 favourites.

Also, this should be Type: Anime.

While I'm not exactly a big fan on the song itself everything surrounding it is absolutley wonderful. Megumi Kouno's solo key animation was absolutely incredible beginning to end and Toshifumi Akai's direction and storyboarding were superb, they really brought it together to make something truly special.

Incredible work.

I did a little bit of searching through for the animator and I have to say, Megumi Kouno does this excellently from the animation towards the asthetics. I think I felt way more emotional with this than the Kagerou Project songs, yes even Ayano's Happiness Theory.

Somehow I got "Voices of a Distant Star (Hoshi no Koe" feeling from this. I got teared up again because Rin seems to be only girl that survived planetary crash in order to survive that tragic ending for the earth. We don't know much the details of course but since in some of the parts of the video the focus was the Tokyo and maybe Rin's father is the one who wanted her daughter to survive this ending out of his love for her daughter and made one seated rocket and trapped her in eternity to drift in infinite space. Still, she gets a message in the end, can't understand who's sending it though. Probably a message set for further dates and it is probably automated message from her father that explains the current situation for her since she was really small to understand what was going on around her even though the doomsday for the earth was so close.

Anyways everyone can make their own inferences about the story of this short movie so that's what makes it truly special I guess. So if you like melancholical stories you might love it just like me.
It's a real beauty with a catchy song.

Stunning work from both music and animation sides and surprisingly feels-y for only being 6mins long, that's pretty impressive to get that storytelling across in that short amount of time.

We've seen in this video that some planet is going to crash with earth.

Here is one theory from reddit, too.

'Soooo, on the last few frames, we see Rin in the ship.

Pay attention to the UI in the background, you can a trajectory.

I though about it, and the direction of the trajectory doesn't make much sense : it comes from outside the system, toward the star. It doesn't look like an aimless trajectory, and I think the ship is landing soon.

Since we know the ship has been sailing for 2539 days or about 7 years. How about we look at the nearby stars within 7 light years. Alpha Centauri an Luhman 16 are candidates, as they both have known planets (and maybe more)

So yeah, her father had a degree in VR, space engineering and life support :)'

Saw random MV trending on Twitter among illustrators. Turns out it's SCENERY PORN.

Not my kind of music, and probably 2deep4me, but the A-1/Crunchyroll collaboration certainly got my attention. Kinda weird seeing Crunchyroll getting into anime production, but I guess it's something I'll have to get used to seeing.

This was absolutely amazing. I love Porter Robinson's music and his creativity, I'm glad he's a fan of anime. This was an epic collaboration and having such a good EDM song like Shelter fused together with beautiful animation was fantastic.

And the message of parents' love was very powerful, I didn't expect such an emotional pull.

The letter that flashes on-screen for a split second:
To Rin
From : Dad
There was just so little time left after you were born.
I don't know how much love I managed to pour into raising you after your mother died...
But your smile kept me going. (^_^)
I would like to have come with you, but I couldn't.
I wanted you to forget everything and move on... I knew you'd be alright.
But you'll get lonely, and remember.
I know you'll grow strong, and read this letter some day.
I really wish we could have spent more time together. I'm sorry.
You were so young back then, too young to understand what they meant. So let me repeat...
My final words to you.

The Message of video was clear directly to audience.

Quite enjoyable. Lovely visuals and a nice little tale.

From a purely ethical standpoint I think the father's pretty cruel - assuming the remainder of humanity barring this single girl was wiped out. Even if he has some course plotted out for where to send the ship there's no-one to help continue humanity's existence. Would it have been a kinder fate to let her die with everyone else? Or is giving one person just that extra bit of lifespan the right thing to do?

I'd just be interested to hear everyone's thoughts on this, it always creates interesting discussion.

^^^don't feed the troll kids

anyway, pretty nice music video wise. usually, music videos (at least in the US) portray visuals that have absolutely nothing to do with the song. at least here, the video itself gives or tries to give more meaning to the actual song itself.

as for the song itself, it has a pretty catchy chorus (albeit it's not words) but the rest of the song is pretty mellow. so memorable chorus, not so memorable bridges. reminded me a lot of his hit piece "sad machine" - which i highly recommend if anyone's into mellow EDM, and the song's in many doflin pieces (similar to how renai circulation is sampled a lot in many doflin pieces) like in shawn wasabi's "marble soda"

as for the video, it was visually appealing. CG (for the parts showing that we're in a simulated word) didn't seem that distracting or out of palce. also, i find it amusing that the simulated worlds music video came out a few weeks after a few tech billionaires said that they were funding researchers to break out of the simulation they believe we're currently living in (though of course they're unrelated since the music video has been in the works for a while)

as a music video, pretty good.
as a storyline, yeah it tugged on any parental instincts i might have in a short burst similar to what amaama to inazuma did in its first episode.

I'd say it would've been 'better' if everyone just had died through the crash with the other planet, but since she lives in a simulation where she's able to decide what's making her happy, it can be seen different.

Also, given the fact that she's in space since 7 years and that she is 17 years old now, she was only 10 when this whole apocalypse happened.

I think its pretty obvious that, as her father, you would want her to live longer and so her father decided to create this simulation and send her in space so she can atleast there live in peace for a longer time.

In addition, if her father was able to create this 'ship' and simulation for his daughter there are most likely at least a few others.

And if that 'landing soon' theory would be true, then she/they could probably be awakened by the system or something, if it's even automatically landing on another planet.

My biggest question for this short music video is why, and all I can really come up with is that they needed an excuse to make some beautiful visuals and amazing animation that is easy to consume by the largest amount of people. The premise is simple, the story has been told before, the message as well, and the various visuals only loosely work together because endless imagination was built into the premise. While it is difficult to create substance in only six minutes, other similar videos have done much more in the same amount of time. I don't think people are going to remember this music video that much, especially if they've already seen a good number.

Pretty big assumption and if it were true then it probably wouldn't make my original ethical conundrum as interesting haha. You could be the glass-half-full person and believe that there are other ships or perhaps be the glass-half-empty person and think this was a private endeavour (which I feel the video suggests is the case). Though not knowing the answer makes it a little more melancholic.

Cheers for the response.

It was ok. The music was good and the production value amazing.
The story however meh. Tries too hard to be a feels trip with no real substance.
I did like the premise. (How the hell is her body going to last forever?)
It was sad, but it loses impact and significance the moment you start thinking about it and asking questions.
