Are the Astral Heats really worth it? I mean, they are cool but can only be pulled off during round 3 when your opponent has less than 20% of their health.

I don't think they are finishers that you should actively seek out to use and have as part of your game for the final round. Rather they are just a little insult to injury for your opponent, so if you are in a position where they are under 20% health, and you still have decent health then by all means give it a go, but don't risk the match trying to pull it off.

I find Tao's Astral heat very handy, since she lunges at the opponent. This way you can be anywhere on the screen and have a good chance of hitting them...

Tao's doesn't hit if they're backed into a corner. Also it's really easy to dodge.

I don't think there's a good reason to use Astral Heats. If they're that low and you have 100% tension, you have much better uses for that tension which will be much more likely to connect than betting it all on a move that's easy to see coming.

Agreed. There are only a few Astral Heats that are difficult to see coming, but they're timing is so exact its not even worth pulling off (Hakumen's Astral, for example. The timing on it is about the same as Yukikaze, and Yukikaze at that point in the match is guaranteed to kill, and you can pull two of them off for the same price as the Astral).

My opinion, most of the Astrals are just there as something to brag about when you actually pull it off in online play, like an extra slap in the face just for good measure.

I have found Arakune's Astral heat to be pretty decent. I was in training facing a level 100 bang and we were both at 20% health and both at 100% tension, I managed to pull off successful astral heats every round.

Actually yeah, you're right. Is Arakune's Astral blockable/avoidable? I don't know about online, but the few times I've used Arakune's Astral offline it ALWAYS hit the opponent and killed him.

It's blockable, but you break their guard libra if they block it. It's also pretty easy to dodge, though.

What's cool is that you can continue to hit them with bugs if they're cursed when you go into astral heat. You also stay invisible if you were invisible when you started it.

Ah, OK. Just curious since some Astrals are unblockable and was wondering if this one was too. Although if they're cursed and you keep hitting them with bugs thats an easy way to get combo'd into an Astral finish.

I just wish Hakumen's Astral wasn't so useless. Besides the cool factor, Hakumen's Astral is probably the crappiest one...

TToTT
you don't know
well here's the breakdown.
they can only be executed during round 3, your opponent has to be at 20% health or less, and they take up 100 heat. (they bar at the bottom)
You can unlock them by completing arcade with each character for each of their moves. Then when you go to their command list, the astral heat is the one shown in red.
if you manage to hit with them, the battle jumps to a cutscene where you unleash a one hit KO move on them, giving you the win...
Now I have a question for you, do you have the game and how long have you been playing (please tell me you are a new player)

I don't know if I'd say that. I mean, yes, it's useless overall since you can just use his counter overdrive, but if you have 100% tension and you know you're going to be able to counter attack them, does it make a difference whether you use his overdrive or Astral Heat counterattack?

On the other hand, you will never hit with Litchi's Astral Finish if your opponent has any idea what they're doing. It's a complete waste of tension almost 100% of the time, whereas Hakumen's can at least hit the opponent with his.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love Haku's Astral. If you know you can hit with it, by all means, go for the overkill. I'm just saying that generally, since you never know how a match will turn out, its a much safer option to just go with Yukikaze instead of Akumetsu, simply because:

A) At that point either one will end the match.
B) The control input for Yukikaze is MUCH easier to pull off than Akumetsu (I don't know about anyone else, but I've never once been able to pull off Akumetsu manually, only with Easy Specials, Yukikaze is much easier to nail in the heat of a game)
C) Yukikaze only takes half of Hakumen's magatama. That means that in the event that you do mess up, with will have 4 stars left to follow up with a little bit of keep away game if the opponent is trying to rush you down (which will be likely after screwing up like that), or to follow up with some rush down of your own. With Akumetsu, no meter limits your options to either blocking their rushdown, or trying to stop their rushdown with either 6A/2C for anti-air or 6B/C/6C for anti-ground, assuming Hakumen has priority in his move. Generally speaking having meter opens up more options on how to counter pressure and punish accordingly for a slip up.

Again, this is just a general observation, and in the rare event that you KNOW for certain that it will hit, by all means go for Akumetsu. I'm just trying to point out that its "useless" because it has absolutely no strategic value in the game whatsoever, considering your options.

Agreed, that it's useless. But it's not as crappy as Litchi's.

I do not wish too get off topic but perhaps explore a different avenue under the heading of astral finishes’ worthiness. A glance at the past, the present and what we wish the future to be. Would the game be better without Astral Finishes? Perhaps a Different kind of finisher would be more appropriate…? For a Different perspective, compare BlazBlue’s Astral Finish to its predecessor: Guilty Gear's Destroy. Although I would like to agree that an Astral Finish is not exactly practical...I would take a guess that more people would complain about the game’s Finishers if one ever so close to victory got Destroyed rather than Astral Finished. Astral Finish requires so many conditions that it is agreeably a humbling experience if one ever falls prey to it. Destroys requires a player to sacrifice their own Tension gauge (Heat gauge), but can be unleashed at any time; One sec to let everyone know you are powering up, and at anytime after the power-up, the input command for the 1-Hit-kill. Destroys I find debatable as to how cheep they are (especially if the losing fighter pulls the move off). So are Astral Finishes more appreciated now or do the Destroys still have favor as to what constitutes a better game finisher? (I personally look to a future compromise between the two.) Does anyone think a compromise (hypothetically) between the two sets of conditions would make for a more useful yet not easily exploited Finisher?

i use them when the opportunity comes (as in the unlikely outcome that the conditions are met) and only when they're actually comboable..
like any combo of Tsubaki that leads to 22D near the corner..
or as i normally pull off a Noel drive combo that leads to d.6C..
these are good buffers for astrals for these 2 characters i use..

I dunno actually. but I like using them, I dunno y but I always feel I have to end the battle in an epic way, so I use them almost every time I can. (70% of the times I try to pull it off I end up losing though '-_- )
