i love anime.. i love it that much that even though i find myself critically scrutinizing things on any particular show, i try my best to still enjoy it fully and appreciate whatever the creators did.. my favorite animes are usually what critics want.. but my favorite characters are what otakus want.. hahaha..
and nope.. i don't read much manga or light novels.. i like visual novels more..
how i rate
from 6-10.. if i finished it, it's fine.. so anything gets at least a 6.. incidentally, one can look at this as an equivalent of 1 to 5 star rating system, where i just raised the bar so as not to affect the anime ratings much and to give it a casual avid anime fan's rates feel.. statistically, it also has the effect of putting the mean at a few points less than 8.0 while keeping a very low standard deviation and keeping the rates discretely quantized to more obvious differences between each level because there are only 5 options.. this is to minimize the burden in me choosing between more numbers.. i drop anime, too but they do not have the right to be in my list..
6 -- meh fine average show.. or something that should've been good but ended up being a disappointment
7 -- good average show.. or overall meh shows that has a special factor..
8 -- a really likeable show that is executed well no matter how ordinary it may seem.. or a great show that i personally do not like..
9 -- overall great show..
10 - a masterpiece.. stands out from the rest and seems to be made as a masterpiece from the start..
and because i'm not really fond of manga, all of them suffer a -1 deduction to their scores..
as for my visual novel list,
http://vndb.org/u5733/list?c=all;v=0;t=-1;o=d;s=vote
basically, my top 10 goes to:
1. Sharin no Kuni
2. Ever17 -the out of infinity-
3. Fate/stay night
4. Muv-Luv Alternative
5. Saya no Uta
6. Remember11 -the age of infinity-
7. G-senjou no Maou
8. Cross+Channel
9. Aoishiro
10. Kira Kira
as for genres..
seinen and multi-demographic takes precedence above all demographics..
original animes or non-adaptations have a strong priority.. then visual novel adaptations are next because no matter how bad they are compared to the vn, they serve as advertisement to help me look on what to read in the future.. manga and light novel presentations don't take too much priority even if they're popular..
mystery, hard sci-fi, real mecha, hard fantasy, socio-political story, slice of life, pure comedy, harem, innovative mahou shoujo, etc. are the thematic elements i'm looking for, but i'm not too picky so long as it's something creatively or absurdly new or unique..
and apparently, this
wonderful person who is a close "friend" of mine handles a different department of anime for me.. you might wanna greet him..
as for characters..
anyone that has a uniquely strong character..
for waifus, anyone which has awesome character design that balances beauty, moe, and hawtness, has unique or revolutionary character which goes outside the usual stereotype on certain aspects or perhaps the ultimate representation of something, and/or appears to be a main character of the series..
