| Despite having Asuka in my sig, my favorite NGE character has got to be Shinji. I know that many people critize him for being whiny and wimpy, however it's what I love about him-he's not perfect. I mean, it's understandable that he would be that way, considering everything that he's gone through. And it's not like he's wimpy all the time-it was Shinji who saves his friends in ep. 3, is happy to take the front lines in ep. 16, who bursts into NERV in ep. 19 and saves everyone. Well, some of Shogouki's other major victories might be attributed to Yui-sama going berserk on the Angels, it's not to say that Shinji didn't have his moments, also. I also like him because he's so realistic. He's not the stereotypical hero that charges bravely into everything just 'cause it's his duty. And lastly, because while watching Evangelion, I could relate to Shinji and see him as a reflection of myself, and watching him descend into hopelessness yet admitting that he could learn to love himself in the television ending was truly inspiring. Though Shinji's my favorite, I really love all the Evangelion characters. They all have tragic and gruesome sides to themselves as well as their loveable qualities. They might be exaggerated personalities, but the basic struggles they go through-trying to connect with others and the quest for self-worth and the meaning to their own lives-are things, IMO, that everyone could be able to identify with. |
| @ Euphoriacide I absolutely agree. Evangelion has a very strong and credible cast of characters overall, but Shinji is probably the best. Then again, that doesn't mean he's my favourite. I think I, and many others, would act like he did in his situation, but I aim not to. Shinji has about the balls I have, while, say, Gendo has more balls than most people will ever have. Though he does fail as a parent. :P |

I did too, but of course I don't know if I'd be so whiny (not about the fights, I'd be crying like a baby during the fights, thats something I gurantee), but about the relationships. But, then again my mother has not died and my father is rather supportive, so I can't relate to him on that level. Back to the topic, I feel that I do not have a definite favorite character, but if it had to be decided then it would probably be Gendo. You have to admire his determination and the fact he is proabably one of the only characters in the show without an emo moment. |

| Asuka, thought she was a bitch at first and Evangelion's phenomenal character development made me relate to her so much so that she is in the top spot on my favorite characters list by the time I finished EoE. Believe it or not, Shinji is my second favorite Eva character. |

| Shinji i think, at first i dislike him because of his annoying attitude, but the more i see the show the more i realize he is a realistic and humane character. His attitude is acceptable imo considering he is only 14 years old. |

| Definitely Pen Pen. He received such strong character development... Just kidding. Mine is Asuka. She perfectly symbolizes how people use anger and hostility as a defense mechanism to cope with their own deep-seated insecurities. Poor Asuka :( |
