Sorry for the late response.
I forgot to give it a rating, lol. I've seen all episodes of that show. My main issues with it were:
1. Poorly written MC. Okabe acts like a child and his gimmicks were pretty appalling to me. Throughout the whole show, he is being called a "genius". However, if we look at what he does in actuality, it is not much. Everything important is either done by a fat dude or a red-haired girl.
2. Haremey vibes. I hate fan service as a whole, and we can clearly see that the female characters in this show were clearly done to appeal to the male anime fanbase.
3. Staying on the topic of charecters, they are all plain as hell. You get the average over-the-top stereotypes: genius tsundere, weird otaku, dumb lovey-dovey girl, cute femboy, etc.
4. The story didnt hit me. I liked the first part, where the cast explored the possibilities of time travel, but the second part was boring because we know what will happen. Also, all their explanations were forced and lacking in uniqueness.
5. The art is nothing to sing songs about. It gets the job done.
Of course, it is not the worst show, but coming into it, I expected much more.

Not to quibble, but you don't even have Steins:Gate on your list, and you got the title wrong.

How many episodes have you seen?

HealthyAI | May 6, 8:58 AM
Oshimi Schuzo fan here. I think that Steins:Gates is massively overrated

Maybe I should make sure i haven't misrepesented the show as sillier than it is. Here's wikipedia:

> The series begins with a strange phenomenon called a "spatial quake" devastating the center of Eurasia, resulting in at least 150 million casualties.

Good start nothing wrong so far.

> Shido Itsuka, comes across a mysterious girl at the ground zero of a spatial quake. He learns from his adoptive sister Kotori the girl is one of the "Spirits" from different dimensions who are the real cause of the spatial quakes. He also learns Kotori is the commander of the airship Fraxinus

... So his little sister is the commander of a space battleship and he never noticed.

> Shido is recruited by Ratatoskr to make use of his mysterious ability to seal the Spirits' powers thus stopping them from being a threat to mankind. However, there is a catch: to seal a Spirit's power, he must make each Spirit fall in love with him and make her kiss him.

> As Shido successfully keeps sealing more and more Spirits, he gains allies to help him with his dates with other Spirits but also increases the competition among them for his attention and affection, much to his chagrin.

You can see where this is going. Apparently it's on par with Lord of the Rings according to the fans.

Wow... I've never seen Date a Live, but this premise does sound very ridiculous. If their loved show is that trashy, they should at least acknowledge it and be happy. This reminds me that it is commonplace for light novel authors (and encouraged by their editors and publishers) to shape their stories according to what the reader wish would happen. To be fair, I think the KietaTeenRomance from a couple or two years ago would also be excited from such anime.

Hey, I'm here a week late. Just got into an argument and found out there are hardcore "Date a Live" fan boys that you don't want to cross.

I was just saying that it's fundamentally a silly premise for a show, and you have to be aware of that going in, to someone to who was tossing up whether to see it and wanted to know if there was a "good story" to it, because they didn't get that vibe from images.

However this brought fans out of the woodwork who swear blind that it's not just a stupid concept turned into a show (it's about a kid who has to defeat sexy alien girls by taking them on dates), but some masterfully planned out epic on par with the literary greats.

Apparently the hero's magic sperm that means only he can save the world by dating the space babes is all explained in the latest season, so I'd have to watch up to the current Season 5 to realize how genius the story is. Where have I heard that one before "it all gets good in the bit you haven't seen yet".

In reality, no matter how ingenious they get with coming up with a backstory, they are doing so AFTER the fact of having come up with a stupid premise for the show. Coming up with a justification of why everything is "just-so" is called "lampshading" i.e. you address the part of the plot that viewers would clearly find absurd, and by acknowledging it, you defuse the criticism. If the story wasn't absurd, you wouldn't in fact need to concoct an "ingenious backstory" that explains it away.

Is anyone still here? I want to talk to other pretentious anime watchers!!

Alighty good lord. I found my place. Mashiro sucks I hate that girl. I read the novel and took a looooooong break after finishing the first volume and picking it up again. She's so sucky. Good to know, she's on the list.

What's up with best girl Asuna doing up there too. She's nice and demure and develops really nice in Aincrad and Mother's Rosario. ALICE scumberg and Shinon should be put in Her place instead. Asuna is a Saint. If she were real she'd be canonized by the Vatican.

She should be removed.

P.S. The only good thing about Eva is 2.22 and EoE. Asuka tho. 😍😍😍.

That might not be a terrible idea, but I can't think of a way to make it work without standing out too much. Aesthetics > function.

flurryware | Mar 21, 2023 9:41 PM
it might not be a bad idea to put a small date in the corner saying when it was last updated

Ducat_Revel | Mar 21, 2023 8:13 AM
No prob, Aizo. I'll get around to doing the Anime Enlightenment chart soon but I'm a bit tired. Maybe next week.

AlabastreAizo | Mar 21, 2023 7:26 AM
Thank you for your hard work, Ducat!

Hello there!

While this club may be dead, my boredom is eternal. I have updated the club's Manga Enlightenment chart to reflect the new additions, as well as removing entries that we've since voted out. I will update the Anime Enlightenment chart in time as well.

Also, if anyone is interested, we're trying to add 3 more manga, at most, to the enlightenment list. Go to the thread if that strikes your fancy. We will not be doing this for the Anime Enlightenment list since no one cares enough, myself included.

Ducat_Revel | Jan 11, 2023 9:46 PM
I have no clue how this place still gets some people creating new forum threads but at least the legacy lives on.

Skailogged | Jan 11, 2023 9:44 PM
I was surprised to see that the only club I'm in suddenly became active but it was just @Ducat_Revel

GohanTheGood | Jan 11, 2023 11:26 AM
This initiative is more relevant now than ever. Don't let it die.

Happy 10 years to this dead and inactive club!
