Yeah, SoA was a game I absolutely loved when I rented it years ago. Somebody sold it to us and a coworker put it in the holding bin for me because he knew I had been looking for it, although it had no manual.

The day after I bought it he comes and drops something on top of everything I'm working on. It's the manual. He found one in an empty case in the back hahaha

Skies of Arcadia: Legends is one game you can't dislike if you enjoyed Grandia's adventure/exploration angle. You get multiple airships, and unlike in most PS1+ JRPGs, it has a world map. There are tons of hidden things to find on the map, too, and it's a lot of fun. The characters/story both a bit "meh" if you've played lots of RPGs, but it has a lot of value for fans who still get kicks out of the genre.

About Grandia: only Grandia 2 is worth buying, the original aside. It only last 20-30 hours - it having no extras - but the story is a hell of a lot better than the third's messy horribleness.

It's the cheapest of them all, I may take a gamble if we drop it down to $10 but right now I haven't got it.

did get Skies of Arcadia for $30 though. It was $35 but my boss yelled from the back because I buy too much hahaha

Not unless you love the battle system more than 1's story, characters, dialogue, voices, music, etc etc. I dropped it after trying to make myself like it for a few hours -- it only offering dungeon crawling and horrible everything else.

Hey bros

I have all the Grandia games at my work and I pay no tax. I can probably get the ones I don't have for $35-40, and I only own the first.

Should I pick up Xtreme y/n

I'm probably going to end up doing it there as well, sinse I have a habit of spending ages in areas like that. I think for this play through I'm going to crack on with The Tower of Temptation as well, for some reason it's the only thing I never got round to doing.

I have a PAL copy of Grandia that I picked up a couple of years ago, need to buy a NTSC PS1 eventually though for some other games.

AironicallyHuman | Oct 14, 2010 9:42 AM
If you're at the End of the World, you might as well wait until you reach the outside of the tower (with Gadwin). There's a save point near a pool of toxic water/whatever; making it perfect for leveling up water magic with due to the speed your hit points go down just by standing.

I need to replay it again, myself. I have a NTSC copy now... but with no NTSC PS1, it's no doubt going to freeze up on me for lulz purposes.

Playing through Grandia again now, up to the End of the World wall part. Just pretty much letting myself get attacked by the spotlights and blocks so I can level up my water magic some more. I've lost count of how many times I've played this game now, but it certainly hasn't lost any of it's charm.

Woo Grandia! Currently on my 3rd playthough. Hopefully this time i'll beat it, last time i got to the boss battle against General Bal

Those of you that haven't played the first Grandia and own a PS3 might like to know that its going to be added to the PlayStation Network: http://www.rpgamer.com/news/Q1-2010/022410a.html

Good luck with that. ^_^

I'm late on starting up my game again. I wanted to do it like last week, lol, but I've had shifts for a new job and my girlfriend is visiting from college this weekend.

Not that I'm complaining, of course.

Next week, hopefully!

The worst thing I can say about GIII is that I felt no emotional connection with any of the cast. I quite simply didn't give a toss about them, or what they were trying to do.

The ONLY character liked was the lead's MILF of a mom. But she randomly found love and buggered off on a ship early on, leaving me with only generic cardboard cut-outs. It would've been pretty different; having the mother of the main character in the party for the duration - I might've actually enjoyed GIII if that had been the case.

Palsa | Oct 28, 2009 8:17 PM
All true, and Aionic summed it all up rather well.

I also felt that Grandia III borrowed too many idea's from the previous games, especially Grandia II.
Take point, Alfina, a blond haired girl wearing a white outfit, who is necessary for a specific ritual, and the leading character has to escort her there, and the ritual ends in a catastrophe. . .
Familiar?

I agree with what's already been said. As I said the first one is superior to number 2 in my opinion. 3 is a terrible game, as already mentioned it's just cliched and generic. And yeah as far as I know Grandia Online is still on, I think the open beta was released in July, but I may be wrong.

AironicallyHuman | Oct 28, 2009 5:11 AM
Wait, Grandia Online actually exists? I thought it was cancelled. I saw a promo years ago, but then it sort of... died.

Grandia is by far my favourite. It's by far the most complete game, and I have many good memories of it connected to my childhood. It's also the most laugh out loud funny game I've played.

Grandia II is a good game, too, but it was let down by lasting only 20-30 hours, without any extras. It did have the same 'feel' as the the original but it ended up leaving me feeling cold. There was no lol worthy 'We've had ten kids!' ending.

Grandia III killed the series for me. The story was as cliched as you can get, full of holes, and the difficulty level was totally random. I gave up on the second disc when I walked into a forest and got killed by the first randon battle.

Grandia Xtreme is a dungeon crawler, with the wirst voice acting I've heard. No story, all gameplay... and I was used to the battle system already. I quit after a few hours, never going back.

I ain't touched PT. From what I've seen on YT, isn't it a spin-off of the first, with a ton of extras?

Palsa | Oct 27, 2009 5:28 PM
Grandia - Masterpiece.
Grandia II - Great game.
Grandia III - Good game, but lacks some of the features that made the first two great.
Grandia: Xtreme - Haven't played it, but I hear its rather terrible.
Grandia: Parallel Trippers - I've played a bit of this one, but not enough to hold an opinion.

There is also Grandia Zero (Aka Grandia Online):

I'm not sure how things are going with that one, since I haven't checked in awhile.

AironicallyHuman | Oct 27, 2009 2:59 PM
I have a ton of RPG guides; collected them from eBay. I only got them to collect, though - not to use. I've seen the odd auction for Grandia guides, never wanting to pay a lot because of the reviews I've read.

What do you think of GII, III and Xtreme?

Palsa | Oct 26, 2009 7:27 PM
Welcome! ^_^

Hmm. . . now that you mention it, I can't recall ever using my guide.
But it's worth having non the less, plus, it has some nice pictures in it.

AironicallyHuman | Oct 26, 2009 9:26 AM
Hey guys, just joined. Grandia is my second favourite RPG - my #1 in terms of enjoyment. I didn't think there'd be a group for it on here. :)

The official guide is supposed to be complete shit, isn't it? An Amazon review mentions that it misses the extra dungeons and doesn't help much at all overall.
