Studio 4°C

Information

Studio 4°C is a Japanese animation studio founded by Koji Morimoto, Eiko Tanaka, and Yoshiharu Sato in 1986. The name comes from the temperature at which water is densest.

They are known marrying the spirit of independent festival animation with a more mainstream anime aesthetic. In addition much of their output is considered superflat with some artwork from Morimoto being featured at Takashi Murakami`s exhibitions.

Besides larger productions like Animatrix, Mind Game, Memories, Spriggan, Noiseman, and Steamboy, the studio has also produced a number of filmlets, video clips and commercials.

I am thoroughly enjoying the new Thundercats. I never did watch the original series but I've heard the new one is much better. Since I've finished Avatar: The Last Airbender this past summer I've needed an epic cartoon to keep up with and Thundercats is perfect.
I don't think it qualifies as an anime though. Plenty of cartoons have their animation outsourced to Asian countries.
