Kidou Senshi Zeta Gundam

The story is interesting from start to finish. The characters involved in the anime are very real and many of them die suddenly at war. 

Both shows have people fighting Titans to free themselves from oppression. The only difference is that AoT is human and ZG is mechs. Main chars are different in terms of aspect. 

The closest thing to a modern reimagining of Zeta Gundam is the second season of Gundam 00. Both series take place after important historic events; Zeta Gundam takes place after the One Year War with a Federation victory over Zeon, Gundam 00 takes place after the world super powers unite into the Earth Sphere Federation, making a common enemy out of Celestial Being and apparently eradicating war. In these worlds are totalitarian military organisations intended to keep the mistakes of the past from repeating but ironically end up doing just that; the Titans in Zeta Gundam were founded to prevent space independence movements like Zeon yet commit much of the same atrocities that Zeon did and the A-Laws in Gundam 00 "keep the peace" by means of violence. Zeta Gundam focuses on space-based AEUG and Earth-based Karaba fighting the Titans whereas 00 similarly has Celestial Being and Katharon fighting the A-Laws. There is also a lot of betrayal and characters/factions pulling the strings of others in both series. read more 

Of all Tomino's non-Gundam works, Aura Battler Dunbine is probably the closest thing to basically being another Gundam, a <i>medieval Gundam</i> perhaps. Above all a lot of the characters and the general tone of the show feels closer to Zeta rather than the original Gundam series and others, so if you enjoyed the grimdark storytelling through Zeta and are a fan of Tomino's style, then definitely check out Dunbine. Oh and yeah, both are "Kill Em' All" Tomino for the record. 

Series branched from the original series in their respective franchise revolves around a young boy who leads a normal life later gets caught up in a conflict revolving a tyrannical regime featuring blue mono eyed mecha with racism joins a resistance led by a red schemed strong character with glasses whose goal is to stop their domination. Yuya Sakaki-Kamille Bidan Yuzu Hiragi-Fa Yuiry Reiji Akaba-Quattro Bajeena and Shun Kurosaki Shuinin Sora-Four Murasame Dennis Macfield-Rosamia Badam Lancers-AEUG Resistance-Karaba Academia-Titans Antique Gear Chaos Giant-Blue Hizack Both are dark and gets bleaker as casualties pile up. 

Toward the Terra and Zeta Gundam share many similarities on several levels. In terms of characters both series feature young, initially naive protagonists who get caught up in conflicts involving rebel factions and their struggle to overthrow oppressive governments. Both characters are opposed to fighting at first but eventually mature later on, and go through similar character development. There are also similarities to be found story-wise as both series revolve around a similar main narrative : two races of humans (the "Mu" in Toward the Terra and "Newtypes" in Zeta Gundam's case) struggling for independence and recognition, making the themes of discrimination, acceptance and understanding central themes in both series. Both shows while mainly sci-fi feature some supernatural and psychic elements. One difference though is unlike Toward the Terra there's a heavy focus on mecha in Zeta Gundam, being a Gundam series of course. Overall, both shows are highly enjoyable, well-written anime space-opera classics, both a must-watch for any sci-fi fan. read more 

Vrains' 2nd season is identical to Zeta Gundam as a new tyrannical force takes reign allowing allies and former enemies to team up to tear down what will take over the current society that culminated events from previous series. Yusaku and Kamille have a lot in common as the story progresses and Revolver this time takes cues from Quattro Bajeena wearing shades to continue his father's legacy.

I'm surprised no one has made this recommendation yet. Like how SEED did with the original Gundam, SEED Destiny takes many things from Zeta Gundam, from a hot headed MC to a golden mobile suit with chinese letters written on it. Shinn Asuka is basically Kamille Bidan minus the character development. If you want to see a childish little boy actually develop into a well rounded young man, give Zeta Gundam a watch and see how it compares to SEED Destiny. 

Being a love letter to classic 2D animated mecha, it's no surprise that Granbelm takes some inspirations from Zeta. While it lacks the military aspect, both have a fairly somber tone and feature cunning, manipulative villains whose true colors come to the forefront in the second half. Oh and Kamille's seiyuu does the next episode previews for Granbelm too. 

Watching Unicorn I felt the same excitement as Zeta , conflict of war and main protagonist's ideology about war(though Banagher is more charismatic in a way and less arrogant, tries to understand the situation unlike Kamiyu who is hot headed guy on his way to demolish the corrupted titans good thing he has Char to mentor him or is it?). Spoiler? The amount of excitement when Char entered Gundam is reached everytime in unicorn it is just fun to experience. 

The two are similar in many ways, and it's by the same author. There's also the fact that they both end somewhat abruptly, even though Zeta Gundam ended more properly and Ideon ended his story only in the movie which is epic. Both series aren't afraid to kill characters, that's a positive point. Even though it wasn't bad, I found Zeta's ending to be a little weak compared to Ideon's sudden series ending. 

Sunrise didn't only incorporated elements from Zeta Gundam into Code Geass, but from the entire Universal Century Gundam Franchise. So if you like the mechas, the conflics and most important: the politics in Code Geass you will definitly like Zeta Gundam which has by far the best war story the Sunrise has ever produce. 

These are both mecha shows that revolve around a boy who joins a rebel faction. He initially has trouble fitting in but he eventually gets by. They also have green haired love interests. 

Both lean hard into the horrors and psychological wounds of warfare, though Zeta Gundam goes a bit heavier on the melodrama and the political intrigue. Also, lotsa cool 80s dogfights make lizard brain happy. 

The shows heavily revolves around a resistance group that puts great effort and dedication to their cause into freeing society from an oppressive grip. Ren and Quattro are mentor figures who help their young allies into dealing with their troubles and are powerful fighters who have their pasts to deal with. 

These series are the best in the medium at highlighting man's inhumanity to man and the traumatic nature of war, especially in regards to adolescents. 

Macross Plus raised the bar for mecha anime in the 90s with artistry that was unlike anything I've ever seen. It is truly what Gundam could have accomplished if it ever got it's money's worth with a great director like Shinichiro Watanabe and an amazing music composer like Yoko Kanno. 

The main character Aim For The Top! is the female version of Kamille in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. If you liked Zeta Gundam, then Aim For The Top! is a must watch. Both anime series are classics and a blast from the past. The two mecha series rare based on coming of age stories and the people they meet along during their journeys.  

Both are mecha series that depend on war and the politics of war to propel their overall story arcs, down to the "royal family as linchpin" archetype. Both titles don't shy away from death, even those of the main cast, and use the ensuing drama to really pack an emotional punch. Of course, both also have some slick, beautiful robot fight sequences that stand out in the genre! 

Classic 80's Sunrise mecha shows. While the storyline and characters aren't really comparable between the two, the shows do give off a similar kind of vibe and atmosphere. Zeta Gundam is often noted as being one of the darkest Gundam series out there with a very serious tone and so forth, and Votoms itself is very gritty, realistic, and all around consistently mature. Votoms has a trio of goofy and likeable characters for some comedic elements but at the same time, the show sometimes feels even darker than Zeta. Both tend to get a little supernatural by the end and it works really well. Chances are if you like one of these shows, you'll be able to appreciate and enjoy the other a lot too. read more 

When I saw Toshokan Sensou, this anime is remind me of Zeta Gundam. MBC is like Titans and LDF is like AEUG. There is also featuring civil war. MBC want to ban the books which is compared to Titans where they tries to ban the spacenoid. I could imagine when they are anti-anime. 

While the second season of Gundam 00 is more comparable to Zeta Gundam in terms of plot, it's the first season of Gundam 00 that really captures the feel of Zeta Gundam. The first season of Gundam 00 is very dark like Zeta Gundam, with the the second half of Gundam 00's first season being similarly dark and ruthless like Zeta Gundam's last quarter. And both also end on a cliffhanger, leaving it open to a another season/sequel to complete the story.  

Both anime discuss themes of militarism, betrayal, history repeating itself and the potential for the once oppressed to become the new oppressor. The Earth Federation in Yamato rapidly militarises now Earth has healed and builds ships with wave motion guns, against the wishes of the Iscandarians that provided the Yamato the means to rejuvenate the Earth...because they do not want humans to make the same mistakes they did. The Yamato crew question if they are living in the future Earth they fought for in the previous war, eventually having the resolve to betray orders to do what they know is right - getting involved in government secrets and conspiracies. There was lies and deception and in-fighting within factions I did not expect to see. The Earth Federation in Zeta Gundam, having won the war against the Zeon (heartless enough to gas fellow space colonists and drop colonies onto Earth), now has a police-thug-military-force, The Titans, to hunt and prevent Zeon sympathisers and remnants, but they eventually become no better than Zeon themselves, committing similar atrocities, a repeat of history. The Federation is internally divided on this, with OYW veterans becoming part of the AEUG and Karaba. War for profit and enemy-of-my-enemy is my ally are invoked. The politics featured in Yamato really reminded me of Gundam and Zeta Gundam in particular. read more 

Great sci-fi anime from Sunrise that discuss environmentalism, corporations and human migration into space. Planetes is set before mass colonization of space, it contains themes about reaching higher into the stars and becoming a pioneer. At least once they mention that Earth is the cradle of humanity and that humans cannot live forever in a cradle. The political setting has the global superpowers of INTO monopolize space while poorer countries remain non-space-capable. The pursuit of cleaner energy such as solar and nuclear has benefitted the environment greatly bur left many of the aforementioned poorer countries in poverty as no one wants to buy their fossil fuels. The main characters live and work in a corporate space station and there's a lot of critique on Japanese workplace practices. In Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, the Earth Federation was victorious in a war against the space colonies and now has a thug-police-paramilitary, the Titans, to supress any dissidence in the colonies. The protagonists hold such beliefs as humans should migrate to space so Earth can heal from the environmental damage. While Zeta Gundam focuses on the environmental issues more, there are several statements made about exploring space and Earth being a cradle. As the setting involves war, there is also criticism of money-hungry corporations selling weapons to both sides.  read more 

Those Anime are the greatest mecha anime, all of you should see them 

Both are most likely "the less hated" Gundam because their stories are well written.. Their pacings are fast and the conflicts are complex and well designed.. Sometimes it's hard to follow the story because how dense the animes are.. 

This series resets the values of the UC timeline. Newtypes was just an ephemeral construct caused by war between human's who have opposing viewpoints on the evolution of mankind. Defining evolution only holds back the advancement of mankind, this Gundam was mind-blowingly deep. Super underrated
