The general outline of the plot is similar in that there are "Angels" attacking earth and mechas (called Evas) piloted by certain young people (in this case, teens). Neon Genesis Evangelion is different in that it focuses on psychological themes more than Aquarion, and there is more emphasis on the mystery behind what the Evas and Angels really are.
"Genesis of Evangelion" - "Genesis Of Aquarion". Yeah.
Angels attacking the Earth and young, chosen guys & girls trying to defeat them by piloting robots.
Evangelion is way more psychological than Aquarion, but they both have a fair amount of drama and action.
In both anime, the teens are part of and trained by a more or less secret organization.
Also, both teams have a tsundere in them.
Same basic "kids pilot mecha against aliens" plot. However, Evangelion is the serious one here. Aquarion is so over the top and silly that it might be considered a satire of that plot.
You can see the great similarity in the two simply because they are both mecha's. But on another note, Sousei no Aquarion is based off of 3 robots and conjoin together to form a super mecha in the battle to save earth from "Shadow Angels". While in EVA it's similar, but the robots are already complete and ready for use, and they do battle against "Angels" to protect the Earth from being destroyed. If you're looking from something with Mecha, Romance, and Action, Sousei no Aquarion and EVA are for you. (Although EVA's romance is kinda slim XD)

Some places and characters...
Like Atlandia ( Aquarion ) that has similarities with Asgard ( Escaflowne ). etc...
Both are good mecha anime with suggestive titles, and have romance, action, angels, war, and beautiful, magical worlds/places such as Gaea and Atlandia.
These two anime are like different versions with the same ingredients: love, destiny, medieval worlds, magic mecha, intertwined souls, angels and action.

Angels vs Humans.... fighting for survival and annihilation. With action, mecha, and romance; these two animes are worthy of watching if you like the combination of these genres.
There both about sortof apocalypic worlds where new races of people try to take over with big mystical things and only a military company and a single or group a special teens can save the human race with demented mechs.

Both are Mecha anime. both have a plotline where humans rise up against a force that tries to keep them down. both hav sad endings.
Both are essentially a loving tribute to the Super Robot genre. In both shows, you will find many Super Robot cliches taken and exaggerated to extreme levels. Whereas in TTGL it's the fact that basically any battle can be won by sheer willpower, in Aquarion there's a punch attack which has the potential to reach the moon. It's also worth mentioning that both have a tearjerker bittersweet ending.

Both have a similar style and a a decent story underneath all the action. Aquarion you have a love story along with trying to save humanity. Heroic age is also a good series where the characters are trying to save the human race, all while trying to understand the main character.
I highly recommend both....
They're both mecha and a bit romance. The characters resembles eachother in a lot of ways.
In SnA the maincharacter is driving the giant robot, but in Heroic Age the maincharacter is the giant.
If you liked one of them you'll probably like the other.

Another good storyline with meca action, Characters are well developed with a ever changing storyline and aftermath affects of that on the characters themselfs, worth checking out.
Both series introduces the theme of a science fiction world where the main male protagonist is the center of it all. In fact, there is a secret that lies within him related to his past and the main female protagonist of the series is there to help him unlock his potentials.
Both series features the usage of mecha in a futuristic world set beyond our times.
Both series has drama, comedy, action, and romance later on.
Both series' backgrounds also relates to the main female protagonist as well.

Both deal with gundum looking machines and Both deal with angels attacking.

The plots are different but the characters are very similar. Both have lots of humor and action.

Both shows have a 3 jet combining robot

Mecha series filled with action, romance, and drama.
Both of these series involves the fusion of mecha machines into a stronger entity to fight against the enemy. The main character from being zero to hero.
Throughout the series, both main character learns more about themselves and their origin. Of course there is romance, drama, and among other things.

Both are mecha anime series, where the human race must fight for their survival. And there are major character development between friends.

|
Both shows are about Mecha (robots), Action and Romance, both have a boy who was living on the streets becoming invaluable when it came to piloting the robots, both are english dubbed so use same or similar english voice actors for both shows so if you liked one you'll definately like the other ^.^

They're both space centred and in a distant future. They have both humongus machines, even if Basquash! is a sport anime and Sousei no Aquarion is a action anime.
A tad of romance wich is not realice until later in the series and funny main characters.
In the end they both have to save the world ;)

If Your Thought Gravion Zwei Was Good with the meka's combination and a bit of a story line wait until you watch Aquarion. Like Gravion Zwei, Aquarion Meka's are based on combination, however Aquarion Has A Bit More Of A Story Line Behind It and naturally set up differently ^_^

Warriors are reincarnated to fight once again; that is the similarities between the both of these animes. They both have their ecchiness, but display it differently. If your looking for some action, then you are sure to like both of these animes.

Post-apocalyptic animes where humanity is fighting for their survival. Both anime have their own individuality and similarities between plots and characters. If you want action, mecha, and romance; then these two will fulfill your needs.

Kinda similar in mecha styles and the way of the worlds living scenario. Possible world destruction with another race being the cause.

Both Anime are Really Interesting and Both of them are Talking about the Greek Methology, Where in Gigantic Formula are talking about the Greek Gods, While in Sousei no Aquarion are talking about the Stars Signs,Zues and Angels. Well u will get the point when u watch it.
Both of them are similar where they Combine to become more stronger, but in Gigantic Formula they kinda combine and use their enemy weapon or parts when they defeated there enemy.
Ohh i kinda forgot to mention that, Sousei no Aquarion has more Comedy than Gigantic Formula. But Its Still Worth to Watch.

Badass old-school style Super Robot action.

Same feel to it. Great graphics and same ingredients but Aquaring has more Power rangers style because of the teamwork stuff...

Not really the same storyline or anything, but they both fall under a couple of the same genres.
Which would be mecha and romance.
