Very similar, VERY underrated series about a sort of fictional culture clash between the existence of witches and warfare. Maria is set during the medieval period and Izetta during World War 2 but, other than that, the almost anti-war theme explored by a scantily clad witch trying to attain peace using her powers links the two series closely. Maria is the darker and more graphic of the two, though. If you can overlook middling budgets and some pandering in terms of boobs/skimpy attire/light yuri then you're in for a treat 'cause there's nothing else quite like these two underappreciated gems.

These shows have female characters with magic powers and they are set in similar "Alternate reality World War" setting.

War, diplomatic problems, death, hardship, ever so slight Yuri... yeah they are rather similar

To mine eyes, Izetta is a love child of the game Valkyria Chronicles and Virgin Witch Maria. Valk Chron's alternate history World War 2 setting paired with a near extinct supernatural race/power and Maria's attempting to prevent/end a war as a witch with magic. I strongly recommend everyone go play Valk Chron (unless you can handle the cheap art style + love triangle added to the anime!) and more people give Izetta a chance; overlooking the light yuri/boobing in the middle. That is all.

Even though the series are set in different settings, they both involve worldwide conflict and show how the magic-wielding protagonist uses his/her power to affect its outcome. There are certain similarities in plot as well, e.g. witchery, small country fighting against military superpower, use of propaganda and tactical battles. However, Code Geass is much darker and more complex on many levels (mainly psychological).

A young girl as the main heroine, the occult and WW2. Shuumatsu no Izetta is more light hearted and has yuri romance undertones, First Squad is more mature.

Another flying witch, nice magic but no wars this time. A much more quiet and relaxed atmosphere all around.

91 Days and Izetta, the Last Witch are both shows that take place in the early 20th century. Each show has rivaling factions. In 91 Days it is the Vanetti family, the Orco family, and the Galassia family, While in Izetta it is Germania and Elystadt. Both shows have characters who were childhood friends, who were reunited in adulthood, Avilio and Corteo in 91 Days and in Izetta it is Princess Finé and Izetta. Both shows have a similar character designs. The CGI is excellent is both series. Both shows belong to the historical genre, even though Izetta has a lot of fantasy elements.

Tech-fantasy war yuri with an "outsider" element to the relationship between the protagonists. Vampire in the Garden is the stronger of the two.

The main characters are female, and are also strong female leads. There is magic involved and the art and music are beautiful. The character chemistry is also very good and there are yuri undertones.

Shuumatsu no Izetta and Hyakujitsu no Bara are during wartimes where two characters of the same gender fight for their lives. Both are action shows that take place during WW2esk battle and are not happy in the slightest. While Hyakujitsu has romance, Shuumatsu has implied feelings between the two girls.

the same situation where it was set in some setting where it experiences turbulent times and it involves a princess and a very special girl, to put chaos at ease.

Set in a historical European like setting both deal with war, friendship, romance, espionage, with the use of trains and airplanes being used in both backgrounds. The two shows have a similar tone of balancing serious and confident leading ladies who want to help the country/world they live in only difference is ones GL and ones not.

Shuumatsu no Izetta: Set in world war two so if you like the tank play in Girls und Panzer im sure you'd like Shuumatsu no Izetta, Its about a witch in world war two fighting for a fictional duchy set in the west of Austria (the french controlled Post war zone) and you can tell from the countrys armies there is a very strong french influence from the uniform resembling the WW1 french uniform in colour to the fact they even use the Renault FT-17 Light tank seemingly as their main battle tank. It has a witch using a PTSD-41 as a magic flying broom, WHAT  read more

Red-haired protagonist in a magical setting with some similar ost's to boot! Mahoutsukai no Yome is set in a Victorian-ish setting however, as opposed to Izetta, which is set in a WW2 like setting.

Shuumatsu no Izetta and Owari no Seraph are interesting shows about two sides battling against each other. Shuumatsu no Izetta mainly uses magic and not everyone fights, while in Owari no Seraph they use weapons to fight. Both of the main characters were motivated by a friend who they deeply care about, and there are homosexual undertones in both series (yuri for Shuumatsu no Izetta and yaoi for Owari no Seraph). Both contain a bit of comedy as well despite not having the genre listed, so it won't be exceptionally boring.

both about two girls protecting each other, one of them has magical powers that other parties are trying to take advantage of. and the relationship between said girls is similar (as of the date when this comment was added)

Both stories have magic, witches(considred as enemy), war and innocent victims. Main hero is witch who want to stop the war. End of the stories also seems bit similar to me. Even if it has different setting - fantasy vs more modern world and different tipes of characters, I think that overall they have same atmosphere in it.

So, where to begin? Both shows follow a dressed in white similarly-named witch OP character (Suletta/Izetta) who uses nearly forgotten technology and skills to rescue a similarly-named princess (Fine/Miorine) who is her best friend from a political-military conflict. Both pairs of characters are similar in dynamics of a incredibly dedicated, but devoid of social experience red-haired simpleton x a strong-willed and possessing strong ideals, but at the same time emotionally immature princess. Although unlike Miorine, Fine is not such a tsundere. And in the end, both shows are pretty homoerotic, regularly walking the fine line between yuri bait-ish female friendships and ambiguous lady-knight relationships. In  read more

Fairy Tales, the occult and the 2WW in a semi European setting. In both shows the main couples relationship is very important for the plot.

2 girls fighting together, one of them being princess is the same for both Anime, people who support them and those who are chasing them... And the princess not being totally useless is another similarity.

Izetta really reminds me Pumpkin Scissors. Animation and style are very alike. Both series focus on military theme and strong female characters.

Girls with magic rifles going against large organizations with a few friends. Chaika spends more time hiding in the wild and traveling while Izetta is comfy in a palace trying to change the course of what looks like WWII.

- both have girls flying on a broomstick together - both gay

Main characters in these shows are female witches who want to protect person they care about. However, in case of Izetta she is protecting princess, while Ayaka is protecting male protagonist...

Strike Witches is far more fanservice oriented, but both are alternative WW2-period with magic. Shuumatsu no Izetta is a lot more serious though.

Shuumatsu no Izetta presents a similar setting, having the supernatural mixed with fictionalized historical elements.

Both are set in war time and mix magic with WW2/Nazi imagery
