Kidou Senshi Gundam: Tekketsu no Orphans

Both have a cast of soldiers who put their lives on the line for those who don't even consider them human. Then, enters someone who does treats them like decent human beings. Both series discuss multiple forms of discrimination and get deep into gritty frontline warfare. In Iron-Blooded Orphans, CGS are a private military corporation that employs orphaned child soldiers (derogatorily referred to as "Human Debris"). The child soldiers successfully overthrow their own bosses to become Tekkadan, taking on a mission to protect a high-class politician's daughter, Kudelia Aina Bernstein. Despite being separated by class, Kudelia makes an effort to humanize and fraternize with those guarding her, teaching them how to read and write, as well. The world in Iron-Blood Orphans, Post Disaster, not only has classism, but a discrimination against those with cybernetic enhancements which many of those in Tekkadan, even the adults, have. In 86, the Spearhead Squadron are one of many "Juggernaut" squadrons that serve the Republic of San Magnolia, who's majority ethnic group are the white-haired Albans. To the public, Juggernauts are autonomous drone weapons commanded by an Alban handler, and they proudly claim to always have zero deaths in battle, this is due to a racist loophole and the actuality is that the units are piloted by non-Albans called "Eighty-Sixers" (derogatorily referred to as "Pigs"), these are humans that can die on the battlefield but the racist government doesn't even consider them human, so they don't count the fatalities. Like CGS becoming Tekkadan, the Spearhead Squadron have a reputation for extreme difficulty working with their Alban handlers, forcing them to quit, sometimes driving them to suicide. But their newest assigned Handler, Vladilena Milizé, views the pilots as humans, despite their different ethnicities, she shows gratitude for their work, sorrow for their deaths...she counts their deaths because she recognises that they are human beings like she is. read more 

They both have giant robots that are special or unique. They both have a very solemn, monotone, cold main character who are able to drive the robots better than anyone else. Both have a princess from Mars who comes to Earth for political reasons. Both have people who are trying to kill or capture the princess for political reasons. There's war related history and events. People die. People fight. Both have many characters from all different backgrounds that some how add to the story. Seriously, there are both so similar I'm surprised no one had already suggested them. 

IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS is very much like a real robot version of Gurren Lagann. The relationship between Mikazuki and Orga is very much reminiscent of the relationship between Simon and Kamina but adapted to a real robot setting where the grittiness toned up and the optimism toned down. The protagonist has a badass big brother figure he looks up to but also has to learn to be his own person. Both stories feature a ragtag group of soldiers (Team Gurren and Tekkadan) face up against a stronger force (The Beast Men and Gjallarhorn). 

Gundam IBO and the Code Geass franchise are stories that are heavily motivated by political turmoil. Having similar genres and characters (i.e. a strategist/leader and a brilliant mecha pilot), both series are highly recommended shonen epics which will undoubtedly keep viewers hooked until the final showdown. 

I know it might seem odd to recommend these two, but hear me out: -Both are MUCH improved over their predecessors (Zexal and AGE respectively) -Both are much darker than previous entrees -Both share Japanese VAs -Both feature a return to older plot elements (Arc V takes a lot of cues from 5Ds, and IBO takes cues from AWGX, Wing, and 00) 

Both anime focus on the idea of child soldiers piloting mecha and the toll these battles take on their psyche. Both anime share a similar vibe, featuring drama and tons of great mecha action, with Evangelion having a higher focus on psychology, and Gundam IBO having a higher focus on politics. 

Iron-Blooded Orphans and Victory both have very similar premises and elements early on, more than just both being Gundam shows. Bother feature a very young or young-appearing MC (as Mika doesn't have an official age iirc), a noble girl who wants to end an oppressive imperial reign, and a young girl who tries to comfort the MC. Tekkadan and the League Militaire are also fairly similar as organizations. 

Both feature Gundams from a war in the past used to fight again, with the main character being a member of a crew with a cool starship. Both also have the main character protecting a girl who is a love interest for him. IBO is much darker than AWGX though 

- The design of the two main characters, Age and Mikazuki, is pretty similar; - Destined soldiers following their princes in battle.  

Like SEED, discrimination against human beings who are not "natural" is a common theme because in both of these series non-natural human beings are so prominent unlike the emergent NewTypes, Innovators and X-Rounders. In SEED, genetically engineered human beings called Coodinators dominate the space colonies, whereas on Earth, especially in member-nations of the Alliance, Coordinators are referred to as monsters. The discrimination is field by the propaganda of terrorist organization Blue Cosmos who influence nations in the Alliance. In G-Tekketsu, people who have prosthetics, whether it be the highly advanced Alaya-Vijnana system or something so basic as artificial legs, are also referred to as monsters or at the very most with curiosity. Like Blue Cosmos, the Gjallarhorn promotes the discrimination with its close ties to the nations of Earth. read more 

Both: heavily emphasize the nature of war, are strategy based, and have bad ass main character who seek the end goal of a peaceful life.  

G-Tekketsu has the concept of child soldiers being used as a very prominent plot point. This idea has been touched upon since the very first Gundam series but season 1 of 00 was the first to use it prominently and openly. In 00, the protagonist used to be a child soldier, part of a religious fundamentalist group called KPSA, and is now part of a different group called Celestial Being who use armed force to pursue a world without war and therefore a world where children do not have to be soldiers like he was. In G-Tekketsu, the main characters are all child soldiers/slaves working for private security force CGS who take over CGS to become the self-run Tekkadan. Additionally there are other child soldier characters too. read more 

Both have common protagonist that find their spirit to fight using robot, silhouette knights and gundam respectively Both have a mecha that fight their enemy with unique ability and not using any beam weapon.  

This may seem like an odd recommendation as these animes are clearly VERY different in setting and plot but I feel like people who liked Banana Fish might also like Iron Blooded Orphans (and probably vice versa). I saw elements of Ash’s character in several characters in IBO. Both shows deal with the exploitation of children and characters being forced to make difficult decisions and do things they may not want to do for the sake of their own lives or the lives of their loved ones. The main reason for the recommendation is that the emotional attachment I felt for the characters while watching both shows is similar (and at a level most shows simply don’t achieve for me). There’s a real sense of dread when they are in danger and I genuinely hurt for the characters when they hurt. IBO ends on a more hopeful note than BF but both are absolutely gut wrenching (though IBO did not leave me as devastated as BF). I really loved both shows and they will likely stick with me for a long time.  read more

Both have stoic and highly skilled MCs who face the world on their own terms, often at odds with established organizations & powers. They also involve found-families which frequently face daunting foes that must regularly be outwitted/fought. 

okay so hear me out, these two shows at first might seem completely unrelated but trust me, both shows give off a similar vibe -both shows have a focus on kids making their own "gangs" (in ibo it's more of a government organization/ideology) to achieve a goal -both shows definitely have a similar if not the same impact on the viewer (like it will elicit similar emotions) -similar relationship between the two mains, mikazuki=mikey, orga=draken 

The Mech design is almost identical... also the protagonist both mikazuki and Sousuke has similarities. 

If you like the idea of adolescents rebelling against their fate and trying to create a home for themselves where every child can live in peace then you will like Simbad no bouken 

A Mecha anime and its also a Mobile Suit Gundam title. Both are very cinematic, lots of action, and have a similar length too. The characters are memorable and the stakes are high just like in IRO.  

Both series are darker than the previous series and have to do with survival through wars. I found Orga Itsuka to be the Gundam version of Archer and Kudelia to Saber. 

Both about kids who have lost something, and how they overcome obticles further to come. Both with same type of plot. Both brothers in it, but different at the same time. Truely recommend Iron-Blooded Orphans to FMA brotherhood fans. 

-Both has corrupt state. children fight to freedom. -Deep story and musical is really good. -Guilty crown has supernatural and mecha instead of only mecha. 

If you watched this you probably like Gundam, mecha or/and war series. Iron Blooded Orphans has all three elements though I must warn you it comes from the darker side of the Gundam universe. 

Apart From being a mecha anime , Both of them have some similarities, Both the anime present a dark situation where the main character has ended up in a Tragic Situation, Where his life is threatened. Both anime present a Prevailing group of outcasts who need to be stopped and exterminated. 

With a cast so huge, it would seem impossible to develop them all in any meaningful way, but these anime manage. The best parts about these shows are the realness of the characters and the cleverness of the plot. Definitely check them out. 

So this is going to be a weird rec, but: -Both MCs are refreshingly direct and to the point -Violence is treated with a lot of weight -Wide cast of memorable characters 

Both series has a main mecha that was created way before the characters in the story are born. These mechas are both remnants of a previous war many years ago and their combat abilities surpass than the other mechas in their respectful series. However, the mechas function are very different in both the series. The ones in Iron-Blooded Orphans functions through the use of energy and fuel while the ones in Break Blade functions through the use of sorcery with crystals. The main protagonist are also different as the one in the gundam is a child soldier while the one in Break Blade is a farmer. Both series also has royalties that appear to be attracted to the main characters.  read more 

Analogy-wise, Baka to Test is like the comedy-version of Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans. Mikazuki and Orga are pretty much like Akihisa and Yuuji. Mikazuki fights for Orga, as Orga does the strategy as the leader of Tekkadan. Thus reflects pretty much the same way as how Akihisa follows Yuuji, who also claimed and does the strategy for class-F. Then we have Kudelia, who is the action-moe counterpart of Himeji; and Atra, who fits well as Minami's counterpart. Both Kudelia and Atra likes/loves Mikazuki, in the same suki-manner as Himeji and Minami does to Akihisa. 

Both Anime's contain a very strong bond of Brothers In Arms. The fight only for themselves for the most part, and in doing so achieve something greater. The bond is also created in a similar way by means of their social status. 

The similarities between both main characters is too much. If you liked the main character, you can try the oyher anime. Both main characters is OP in some way, and somewhat lack the brain to do the thinking therefore they only do muscle works while their partners do the thinking. The physical appearance is also similar. Black long hair shorty with lack of facial expression. 

Both have kids who are forced to fight. Both have mobile suits. Both have a main character who is good at fighting and other kids who also want to fight. 

Toward the Terra is like Iron-Blooded Orphans about a group of family like comrades who travel through space to reach the place where they belong. They both very heavily emphasis character development over plot so the story takes a long time to pick up. Both shows are very emotional and touches on issues such as discrimination, survival in a world that has forsaken them, and struggle for a place to call home. 

As both shows have quite the similar elements of space-ships, missions and/or requests from clients, and colonies to planets involved to be the stage of the plot, it works in the premise that Mouretsu Pirates is a seeming much milder, more innocent shoujo-version than the rather ruthless, brutal shounen-genre that is the Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. Also, both shows have Hisako Kanemoto and Yoko Hikasa as supporting seiyuu-casts on it. 

Both series are heavily themed around people in space wanting to win independence from the Earth - in IBO, it's Mars that's trying to become independent from Earth; in Wing, it's several space colonies. 

It is an odd recommendation but I can't help but see Blues EXE being similar to Gaelio due to the same VA and both are police who are rivals with the main character. Both are cartoony in some way but have serious moments as well and Rockman has a history of having elements being influenced by anime such as Gundam for example. 

If you want a better story with mechas, drama, and politics, Code Geass is one for you. An interesting note is that Mcgillis and Suzaku share the same VA and have similarities once you watch through the whole show. 

Both series are darker than the previous series and have to do with survival through wars. I found Mikazuki Augus to be the Gundam version of Emiya Kiritsugu plus his Gundam is similar to Berserker as well. 

Child Soldier and brutal warfare are portrayed in both shows in a dark and gritty format. Mikazuki and Sven are similar of some sorts. Note that the fights are more realistic as opposed to lasers and powers. 

Apart from the fact that both are mecha anime produced by Sunrise, both Gundam IBO and Votoms have a certain degree of grittiness that is rarely found in mecha anime. Both focus on the lives of simple soldiers as they go from battle to battle, both have great mecha action, and both have somewhat similar main characters (Chirico and Mikazuki). 

If you flipped the perspectives in AGE (focusing on the natives of Mars instead of the Earth Federation), made the story a "Band of brothers fighting for independence" style story instead of a "young boy discovers the horrors of war" style story and got rid of all of AGE's flaws, you'd pretty much have IBO. 

Although very different in execution, I think Getter Robo and Gundam IBO are connected by the theme of violent and hot-headed protagonists rushing into battles. Lots of action, blood, twists and drama in both anime. 

Both shows are about squadron of soldiers surviving the harsh world and involves young soldiers. Akito's relationship with Leila is similar to Mikazuki with Leila as a nod to Heero and Relena plus they are all based on their archetype. Not to mention that one of the characters in Gundam IBO has the same seiyuu and a similar mecha with a relationship with the other character who too has the same seiyuu.
