shion no ou = shougi saki = mahjong both complicated games(to me atleast) and fun to watch and maybe learn.

Roughly the same theme. Where Hikaru no Go is about go and, after awhile, the professional world of go, Shion no Ou is about shogi and the pro world of shogi. They also have very young protagonists, though Hikaru is just starting out, while Shion is already an accomplished player when the series starts, so Shion no Ou has less of an underdog theme.

The elements of mystery and suspense are all there. Though the plots are both very different, I think if you enjoy the type of anime Death Note is, then you'll definitely love Shion...

Both anime focuses on Shougi Both MC has a dark path that's related to Shougi Both MC are "fostered" and loved by their fostered family.

One is about suspense/murder/mahjong, the other is about suspense/murder/shogi.

Both of these Anime deal with girls who are passionate about a traditional Japanese game. There is very nice characterization and a bit of outside story involved, one dealing with mystery and the other friendship.

Several characters spend the whole show trying to solve a big mystery

Both are mainly about Shogi. Ryuuou no Oshigoto! is more comedy based with a male lead. Shion no Ou is more drama and mystery based with a female lead. Both are well worth watching!

Both Shion no Ou and Detective Conan Movie 21: The Crimson Love Letter involve traditional Japanesse games with a background mistery to solve.

Has a similar feeling when watching it. Mostly because the two of them have mystery and also strange men who appear.

Both series follow young girls in their struggle to find their voices (for very different reasons, mind you!), as well as encounters along the way that help them along that path. Shion no Ou is much darker in nature, while Hitohira is more of your classic school drama. Both series are also rather underrated, in my opinion.

If your looking for an anime that pulls you into the story and mystery with great animation you will find that Shion no Ou and Ghost Hunt have these in common, Ghost Hunt is about supernatural mysteries and Shion no Ou's mystery is about finding the killer in a real world crime, they both have fantastic animation and a tiny hint of romance, great characters and fantastic mysteries! If you liked one you will definately like the other.

Shion no Ou is about a girl whose parents get killed and she uses the Game to find out the killer. On the other hand, Majin Tantei is about a girl whose father is dies and she is recruited to by a demon to help solve mysteries for the demon to eat. She uses this premise to find out what happened to her father. The basic flow of both stories are very similar, its just that one is about killers and murderers, while the other is about a game. ultimately the idea is to find out the criminal who committed the act against the lead characters.  read more

Both Shion and Utena are girls who are competing in a game that by some is seen to be intended for only men. They, and other female competitors, deal with a lot of prejudice. Partly because of this both series have someone cross-dressing. Characters are well developed and might not be who they seem at first. The duels and shochi-matches play an important part in these series, and during these matches the personalities of the characters are further developed. Also, interestingly enough, there's not just the competition around which everything resolves, but a mystery to be solved. Both Shion and Utena had a traumatic experience  read more

Both anime has similar art and atmosphere of mystery, though stories are different: Ghost hound has supernatural and Shion no Ou realistic plot. Both main characters has serious trauma from childhood and the story develops around that.
