Well, what can you say for an anime that lasts 1m 27s :S.
It's essentially a type of romantic thing that i suppose is fairly typical in theme to much of Shinkai's work. It's a sort of silent movie with two characters simply talking about their relationship. Everything within is essentially designed to be simplistic, from the b+w colouring to the absence of spoken dialogue which I think works well within its own context. For something so short I thought it was fairly enjoyable.

This is a short film with no purpose. The music is another instance of Satie's Gymnopedie No. 1. PSA to directors: Satie has other works, try putting those in your anime sometime. It seems like this exact piece keeps popping up everywhere I look. The art is mediocre, though it's not at all obtrusive to one's enjoyment given the film's length. And the characters are obviously not given much development, so as a character-driven narrative the story is minimal at best. Tooi Sekai aims to evoke feelings of longing and love, but ultimately cannot accomplish much due to its read more

In less than two minutes we are told a story that touches the typical themes found in works by Shinkai. In other words, the focus lies on drama, romance and, naturally, clouds.

But despite Tooi Sekai being as simple as possible due to solely having been created by Shinkai himself, it does not hit home. In seven silent sentences we are told an ultimately forgettable story that comes across more as an idea, an experiment to test his skills, than something with a point.

There is nothing wrong with this. However, it is not very exciting to watch.

Story about something that you can't understand before you fell it yourself. About loneless and love, or just frenship. Just some words ir anime witch has only 1:28min, but you can understand everything, that author wanted to say.

Art is realy primitive, but i like it. This anime gave me enjoyment. This short anime gave me that i can't found in long films... It realy something wonderful.

Recommendations

Similar style and by the same director.
Both are short anime about relationship between men and a woman. While Tooi Sekai is taken from dramatical point of view, Ai is more of a dementia.
