- the protagonists are great writers of literature - use skills related to their works

Superpowers, secret organizations, badass main characters, the powers in R.O.D are much cooler and original than DTB but the plot of DTB is more interesting

Both anime are mystery and about crimes. The characters and stories are great. There are also some comedy scenes.

Paper based combat... the form of combat is a little different then shiny spells or guns. Instead a lot of combat is done with ink, sound and paper.

Both are centered around the significance of unique books as a means to gain potency and intellect. When it comes to the main characters, it is highlighted how being a bibliomaniac can contribute to solving cases involving strange books that were deemed rare and lost, or even containing special magical powers, unique to the grimoire in question. The illusionary realm of fantasy and reality is a strong concept supporting each respective titles, but saying anymore would spoil the experience.

Plotwise it's not very similar, however you'll find the same atmosphere and pressure in both anime: the music is kind of alike and the internal conflict in the main character persists same way. In both of these the main character isn't the strongest (Elk is weaker than Arc). In both anime you'll find these kind of experiments on people and manipulation of people. Clive is as cold as Joker and there's the relationship Wendy- Joker and Clive - his assistant. Arc and Anita are kind of similar since they both have conflict with the past and they are full of energy for fight. Also in  read more

In general, I got a very similar feeling from both anime; probably primarily because both are about a team of badass female secret agents. Also in both anime these secret agents have some kind of super power. Princess Principal takes place in England while ROD has ties to this country. Both are good anime, so if you enjoyed one make sure to check out the other.

These two series both involves siblings in a strange world where they use their supernatural powers to help others, achieving their goals, and solving problems. In both series, there is supernatural elements (main characters in FMA uses alchemy while the main characters in ROD uses paper). Both of them requires energy and concentration for them to succeed. Both series' siblings bonds are dramatic, comedic, emotional, and loving. They all function well as a team and looks after each others' well being. There is good character development in the series also that also focuses on some of the antagonists and supporting characters. Both series also has action, drama, comedy,  read more

- the characters around the protagonist have special powers related to "a past life" - an organization related to the arts [Music and Books] is behind the antagonistic activities - they were created by scientists

Both anime show the value of family despite not being related by blood. HTe characters are 'siblings' that care deeply for each other.

Many strong women, some wlw relationships, traveling groups go on adventures with some recurring teammates. Both deal with "Brave New World"-style dystopian societies. Series are the same length.

They both go on missions to get enough money to barely survive and they both do it with powers

Animes are good for when you are very still, tired of the usual shonen and want to watch something different.... That's it... Different!!!! Animes like this are for the real roots Otakus who don't bother with the less hyped and give a chance to just enjoy the story... I recommend it, not for total similarity, but for that pinch of innocent comedy with a little family value and a dose of cuteness!!! <portuguese>Os animes são bem para quando você está muito paradão, cansado do shonen costumeiro e quer assistir algo diferente.... É isso... Diferente!!!! Animes assim são para os verdadeiros Otakus raízes que não se frescuram  read more

These series are really similar: First of all in both series the protagonists are 3 sisters, and apart from that Michelle is really similar to Iina and Nenene extremely similar to Aruto, especially when she was her wig on, it is important to state that both of them are writers. Finally they both express a love toward books.

3 girls each, fighting for what's right in both of their worlds... or in R.O.D's case, BOOKS! Still, they're both pretty good anime.

Both shows feature young women working as a mercenaries for a mysterious, conspiracy-plotting organisation.

The plot in the second half of each of these animes is similar in many aspects. In both shows, the "bad guys" are cowards who try to change society by brain washing or conditioning humans. Both these shows carry messages in relation to freedom of thought and the resolution of human conflict but R.O.D. also explores the concepts of education and culture. R.O.D. deals with a few more questions but it also leaves many unanswered, whereas Black Cat, despite its simpler plot, provides more closure.

They are stories that deal with political/science conspiracies and spies, gouvernment secrets and detective mysteries. They are also packed with thrills and action.

War over books.. well.. can't say it's a war in read or die, but it almost a war..

In both series, British Empire is restored to its full might and seeks for dominance over the whole world. Both series feature alternative history, supernatural abilities, school stories, drama, lots of action, loads of cliffhangers and the constant feeling of the impending "end of the world as we know it".

Action anime with women agents. The feeling of the show and even the art is similar.

Both have really cool characters(Cute and strong girls). They may be one day at an epic battle and the other enjoying her daily life and friendship.

Both anime's are similiar in where each character develope's a new power, only difference is in mai hime. They controll hime's and in ROD you can controll the power of the 5 elements of nature.

Both have novelists and people obsessed with books. Characters with ridiculous weapon. Like BIG kitchen knife or PAPER. Fights give similar feeling.

It's funny how Code-E reminded me of Read or Die straight from the Opening. The art style, the feeling... it's really hard to explain how they relate. Supernatural abilities; being controlling paper or emitting electricity from your body... that's the most logical part of what both shows have in common. If you're watching Code-E and like the 'feeling' of it, R.O.D. is a must for you! If you're watching R.O.D, you might have some interest in Code-E (but I must warn you, it's a step down from R.O.D!)
