Good descriptions and opinions. I'm caught up with them as well. Here's my opinion.

While both have a good premise, catchy openings and good endings, and unique art styles. However, both have their problems. Now keep in mind that I was reading Claymore when I started these series, so maybe I'm over criticizing them due to the contrast from a quality action series, but I'll try to be fair and give them a chance. Speaking of which, considering that you're watching Brotherhood, which is in its own league of quality anime, I'm surprised you aren't noticing some of the problems in these series compared to that masterpiece. But never mind. My opinions.

Black Bullet is rough around the edges. The characters seem one-dimensional and I can already see the harem elements settling around the main character. Also, some of the better side characters (cursed children, politicans like Kikunojo Tendo) don't get enough screen time. As for the first arc, it looked like a scatterbrained mess. The main guy should not have got his ass kicked two times, when he already had the means to win from fight number 1. Some anime can be excused for this, but this isn't one of them. However, I like the new arc since its a lot more down to earth and the series seems to have a clear focus on where its going. At least in story terms. The romantic nonsense can sometimes be refreshing from the heavy drama, but other times its annoying (ex. attempt at hand holding from the newest episode). However, the part about Kayo and the discrimination against Cursed Children and Enju are high points in the series. I'll enjoy it if I see more moments like that, which fully make use of the series premise. So judging from the newest episode, it looks like more good stuff is going to come. We'll see how it goes. Gets a 7.6 from me right now.

As for Gokukoku no Brynhildr, it has the same kind of problems. While it has some good themes, and doesn't mind killing off characters, I still have issues with it. It was interesting how the series description, opening and preview/first episode showed a view of three completely different series (which I haven't seen done since Chuunibyou), but the actual product is somewhere stretched between the three. The art style, while inventive, has a strange eye design and seems to fluctuate in quality depending on the scene. Also, I know they are trying to be more realistic in crying animation, but I think that the normal anime way has worked fine for ages. This by comparison just looks strange. As for the characters may have unique personality quirks and abilities, and it seems to be aiming for a well rounded cast with the newest characters, but I think it has the same harem setup problems as the Black Bullet. Not to mention its made by Arms who is known for their fanservice series. Now, while I did enjoy Maoyuu Maou Yuusha (highly recommended from me), this series is starting to show its fanservice scenes. I know that its kind of a counterbalance to the dark and gruesome scenes, but it feels unneeded in this kind of series. Also the plot seems to be holding together, but it doesn't feel focused like Black Bullet has done, but it keeps it characters from looking like idiots for the majority of the show. Anyway, I'll see if this new character speeds up the plot at all, but I'm not sure if it will improve yet. Gets a 7.6 from me as well.

So that's that. Hope you liked my opinions. And while I loved the new animation for the revamped opening of Black Bullet (since the first one felt half-animated with obvious cuts), I'm still holding these series at arms length. Whether they improve or not is up to the series. I'll just wait and see. Thanks for reading. Talk to you later when I have time to reply. I'm working this whole weekend and I have Anime North next weekend, so take time with your reply. Later.
