| Finally watching this after so many years (somehow) and while I don't think it lived up to its insane hype, I really enjoyed. The animation is sublme even after 7 years. There's a lot of detail put into each shot as well as the background and the characters (at least the main ones). Even the surreal sequences had that distinct touch as well. Also, the three songs featured were quite emotional and gave it that romantic and melancholic feeling that I was already anticipating. That's all good and well. Nonetheless, I can't say that the story was on par with how the product was presented. Sure, there were a lot of developments going on on both of the leads' sides and we did have a conclusion for some of them while others were left to speculation. The problem at least for me was that the fantastical twist element made it a bit of a mess to follow along. To be fair, I wasn't paying a lot of attention to the grandma's tales but even after doing so they still sounded a bit fishy and unnatural. More so, she eluded to the fact that she knew about the incident from before but didn't elaborate. Same thing with the mayor who may or may not have known about this. I'd have liked if they had more screentime and delved into that but it is what it is. The lead romance comes first I guess. At least this time there was more chemistry than in other Makoto Shinkai films. All in all, as long as you don't analyze it too much, there's quite a lot to enjoy about the film. |

| An alright movie, but with too many supernatural and hypothetical concepts constantly overlapping in a tangled knot to properly get invested in the story. You spend more time thinking about explanations for what happened than actually caring about it on an emotional level. Anything that can't be immediately explained is resolved by a retrospective plot convenience. The basic progression of the plot is still perfectly cohesive, but the more particular details are noticeably muddied. Characters are decent and their interactions are usually mildly enjoyable, the visuals are spectacular, the body-swapping premise was very entertaining during the first third of the movie, and the music is serviceable. The unconventional long-distance relationship between Taki and Mitsuha was endearing in the star-crossed lovers sense (especially with so many forces separating them), but it's difficult to pinpoint where the romance actually started, given how they barely hinted at mutual romantic interest. |

| some events are meant to factory reset your heart to the rich, joyous ,evergreen kernel within us before it turns turpid going through societies trepidations.This show is such an event which must have touched people's life for the better.Makoto Shinkai ,you're the brilliant .Big salute to the team behind this project .A special mention for Radwimps ,you guys have perfectly encapsulated the emotions . 10/10 |
