| i think it's the question of whom you dislike more. the author made them both creepy, this and other goodies doing questionable things tstl keep us subconsciously afraid of the MC getting caught despite that we already detest him for what he's done. if we got a detective we could identify and sympathize with we'd just root for him and that's that. detective character is so often depicted as nearly a villain, like, he literally plays with the culprit enjoying their fear and stress and he doesn't even care that he does a good thing and helps people - just wants to catch the villain because MWA-HA-HA-HA-HA! |

L is also great tho, but I was more emotionally attached to Light. Ntm, both of them were smart as hell.

Pretty much the same here. I liked light in the beginning but then he just turned out to be a deranged pathetic kid who can’t make the difference between good and evil and on top of it he was not even funny lol

see the thing is, this isn't personal. I just admire L more. Although (in my opinion) Light goes down as one of the best protagonist ever. The cat and mouse chase between the both of them was very entertaining. Cheers to our lovely dead boys.

| I favor Light because you see where he wants the world to be in his initial conquest but you can later somewhat sympathize with him because in his fight to create a just and fair world he loses himself and becomes the very thing he swore to destroy. I love L but in my opinion he wasn't willing to do everything in his power to punish the people who did wrong and therefore he lost to the one willing to do anything to stop the bad and evil of the world. I will say Kira definitely took over and Yagami's personality took a backseat and in his quest for glory he became too unfastened not realizing the errors he could be making by not calculating the final components of the plan. |

| By default I can't pick Light because he was a horrible person with few redeeming qualities and an outrageous ego. He also lost a ton of IQ points during the Near arc so I couldn't even enjoy his schemes based on how many mistakes he was suddenly making which only made Near look better than he really was. So L I guess. |
| L. I started to dislike Light a bit after he started going off the rails. Sure, the anime is about his rise and fall, but his eventual bombast felt both off-putting and out-of-character. |

| Personally, Light for sure. L is so much less interesting in comparison. L - an awkward homebody that sits at home and solves mysteries... that's it. Very "single-layered" imo. Light - successful, smart, popular; discovers unprecedented power and initially wants to use it for the societal good, then starts using it in a self-serving manner to avoid punishment, and ultimately he adopts it as his "identity" and loses his roots |
