Vampire Dormitory

Homeless and fresh out of employment, Mito Yamamoto faces familiar loneliness and despair. Luck is simply not on Mito's side; when he stumbles upon a cafe and cuts his hand, a strange server named Ruka Saotome licks the blood from his wound and even dramatically retches at its apparent disgusting taste. Offended and dispirited, Mito runs off to a bridge, hoping to put an end to his misery.

But when Mito accidentally slips, he is miraculously saved by Ruka, who reveals he is a vampire. Unable to drink blood from just any woman for mysterious reasons, Ruka proposes that Mito become his thrall—a vampire's human servant and primary source of food. In this deal, Ruka will shower Mito with love to sweeten his blood, and Mito will gain a warm place to call home.

However, there is an issue: Mito is a girl! Concealing her long, flowing hair and feminine body, Mito readily takes this chance and enrolls in the Hijirigaoka Boys' High School while working part-time at the cafe with Ruka. But the more Mito's bond with Ruka deepens, the more she struggles to hide her secret.

This anime is about the true friendship between real men that toxic females don't want you to know about.
It is a story that doesn't need female characters.
Sinful females may try to project their disgusting desires onto the manly protagonist.
So don't be fooled and recognize the realistic, platonic and honest relationship that builds on trust and equal interests, not on romantic feelings...


Main character: Strong male with cool funky red hair. I like

White Black Bloodsucking Gangstar: Needs to stop coping and drink blood

... I find the man with black hair really boring and unnecessary.

Pinky Fluffy Man: Strong gigachad hitting Gym 0 hours 7 days a week

Other Big Blonde Male: Amazing height.

The plot is extremely contrived and ridiculous. I enjoy hot vampire shoujo trash but this takes it to another level. It feels like watching someone's fanfiction animated.

It feels like the author is just shoving as many forced drama tropes as possible into each episode. Characters are conveniently clueless at times and overly romantic at others. It has a BL meets Ouran High School Host Club vibe.

The vampire prince must find his fated (female) partner to become king. He starts falling in love with his roommate (female crossdressing as male) + gay panic + romance triangle w/another guy + messy drama + overly contrived and ... plot-convenient situations.

This is best for indulging a guilty pleasure, but please know it is cringe. If you aren't the target demographic, you will probably think this is terrible.

Something is seriously wrong with the shoujo anime industry when season after season viewers are fed with garbage content - Vampire Dormitory is no exception. This show was released to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Nakayoshi, a monthly shoujo magazine serializing various manga series. I used to read Nakayoshi myself when I was a kid (notable serializations included Cardcaptor Sakura, Magic Knight Rayearth, Sailor Moon, etc). Sad state of affairs if Vampire Dormitory is the best Nakayoshi can offer nowadays.

This anime is essentially a crossover of Twilight and Ouran High School Host Club where a poor girl crossdressed as a guy and sold her soul ... to a vampire for a cheap meal. There was a scene, and I shit you not, that the MC begged the vampire to drink her blood to satiate his hunger since he was deprived of “food” for an entire week and she was worried about his well being; she’s basically his slave and “lovin’ it” - truly sickening but in a way describes today’s society to the T. If teenage girls are the target audience who are supposed to be gushing over this crap, the future is grim.

Visuals - decent; typical shoujo big watery/sparkly eyes, pretty standard for this genre

Sound - forgettable. I always find it silly to talk about the music unless the anime is spectacular because it’s cherry on top, but never the actual cake. There’s no saving a trashy anime even if you layer Joe Hisaishi’s work over it.

Characters - simply a reciprocal slave and master/vampire relationship. However for the life of me I don't understand why the MC feels the need to wear a wig. I mean if you’re going to crossdress then cut your hair like Mizuki in Hana-Kimi instead of doing this half ass job which seems to be a setup for yet another “heart-throbbing” revelation later on.

Not sure who would actually enjoy this, maybe if you’re obsessed with vampire stories and/or BL (even if the official pairing isn’t BL, the side characters appear to lean that way) you may like it, otherwise it's a cringefest.
