One theory could be that the historical genre is only exclusive to japanese history. If that's the case, would it be a good idea to change it up and start tagging more anime that focuses on world history?

I guess that’s because FGO series are set in their own universe, so it’s like mythology.

That's not the case. I took a look at the historical tag here on mal and half of it is european and american.

Yeah i totally get where you're coming from, but a lot of anime under the historical genre are also based on japanese myths as opposed to actual history.

and some of them have very historically inaccurate aspects

I don’t think it’s about it being Japanese or not though, history is history.

I think it’s because most Fate media takes place in the “modern day” or variant thereof, and it’s more so fantasy than historical because it has magic.

Short Answer:- "Good luck explaining to your History teacher how King Arthur was actually a girl"

Long answer:- Fate maybe related to history in terms of characters and Story but then again it's not THE HISTORY itself, for example King Leonidas and Ushiwakamaru were both in Grand order, in theory both are historical figures, but were they actually summoned to Babylonia in that time period?

Fate takes a lot from history and most of the event may actually register in history but calling it THE HISTORY is like calling
a YouTube parody of the movie an Actual movie

Hope this helps :)

Because while featuring historical figures, it also features mythological ones, in made up scenarios, making it fantasy
