i'm guessing asano read alien 9 and liked the premise of japan having to deal w some alien invasion. he must have also liked the idea of adding school girls to a sort of but not quite really invasion story. which is fine, really.
but alien 9 does better and much faster. the art similarly cute, yet peculiar. but that comes with the territory
Cute girls against the world apocalypse.
Similar plot elements (people who live in a world where alien invasion became an actual life), moral problems, type of comedy, and characters. Kasumi = Ontan. DeDeDe is much deeper and emotional than Alien 9, but both of them are enjoyable.
