Both main characters have a partner that they fight alongside with, and must defeat others who are in a similar situation so that they can become the strongest.
Shaman King is a nice tournament manga with awesome characters, and if you liked it, you probably going to love Konjiki No Gash which is also a tournament but tremendously good.
