These two series may not seem very similar at first, but some of the same elements start to show up as they go. Post-apocalyptic setting, fighting-capable survivors, vampire(ish) beings and their own government (power-ranked enemies included), some mysteries about the creatures' origin and progenitor and lastly, later on, gods and angels also show up. However, the deeper themes surrounding these elements are set up differently in each one; as a result, the overall feel of the two series is not really alike.
