It is easy to identify what isn't similar about these series considering Amanchu! does not have a romantic plot but I've generally felt the same impact from both manga.
They are both coming of age stories and the main characters (Sawako and Dotty) all pass through a necessary growth to better themselves and have more self confidence as well as not rely on a close one (Kazehaya and Pikari). What is different is one may be focusing more on the friendship plot than the romance oriented one.
