Both series feature the protagonists teaming up to play games with significant consequences, often involving mastery, creative reinterpretation, and/or exploitation of simple rules. However, while Imawa no Kuni no Alice often showcases the cooperation between people with different skillsets to triumph in games that they couldn't win alone, Tomodachi Game mostly just serves to demonstrate one mastermind's relentless one-upsmanship of every foe and opposing strategy.

Both manga feature the characters being cast by some unknown entities into playing deadly games which ultimately lead to the MCs having to team up for the sake of advancing forward. As times go by, alliances and truces are forged, strategies involving mind twists are devised, as the weak who cannot withstand the intensity get left behind as they face the consequences that await. All in all, a solid premise for survival horrors whose main selling point are game gimmicks.

Both series are good examples of the death game genre, although Alice in Borderland is significantly more violent (and has a generally older cast) than Tomodachi Game. Alice's main character is also a much more orthodox "good-guy" protagonist than Tomodachi Game's deeply amoral Yuuichi.
