Both mangas focus on a first year setter/spiker duo. The similarity also extends to protagonists' inability to get along with one another: Haikyuu's Hinata and Kageyama being kicked out before they've started, and Junjou's Akira and Katta stubbornly competing not cooperating. However, they then quickly become a completed pair as a great asset. It's hard to not to think about the other when reading the volleyball centred mangas. Even the common goal to redeem a team previously of great power is similar. Junjou compacts insane volleyball into powerful matches whilst Haikyuu pushes the team into practices and overwhelming the opposition.

Both involve the same sport of high school volleyball. Both of the supposedly main character hates/don't get along in the beginning. One is a setter and the other is a spiker. The setter is naturally a genius, while the spiker is shorter but has great jumping athletic ability. Together, they make great partners. Really recommend either one, they are both enjoyable reads about boys playing volleyball.

- both have two main characters: a setter who is a selfish genius (at the start) and a short, energetic spiker. They have to learn to work together and make a formidable pair. - both are about a high school boys' volleyball team - in both, the main team used to be really good but now they aren't that strong, so they train to become the best and beat the strongest team - both have cool female managers who are their own distinct and developed characters - both stories are about volleyball players who have their own struggles to overcome and they work really hard to get better   read more
