These are both extremely dark stories where the protagonist is extremely powerful, but also extremely confused and not sure what to do with their lives. The "feeling" of the setting and characters are also very similar between the series. A dark world filled with despicable, but understandable, people. No one is "evil" or "good" just a circumstance of the dark world they live in.
I can't go into more details without spoiling but if you liked one you are pretty much guaranteed to like the other.
both works paint a very dark portrait of humanity.
they are also deep dives into the very deranged mind of the main characters.
but the common attribute that strikes me most is the strange kind of humour that they share. like, the story is so heavy, everything in the world so wrong, that even the tiniest little details that show a light side, including most of all the naive nature of the protagonist, come out as hilarious. disturbingly so.
Both are edgy as fuck while still being sincere, not edgy for the sake of it.
Both light human existence in a very negative light.
Both art styles, while different arent cartoonish at all.
Both were ridicolous and very brutal.
Both show the dark side of humanity.
The main characters are both badass and not entirely sane.
Both can damage your brain.
