There's not a lot similar, but Violet Evergarden and Gosick follow bizarre individuals who find themselves in situations calling for an exterior force to aid them in their trek to the final destination.
VE is more implicit and inanimate, with Violet trying to find meaning in "I love you" through a series of writing letters, whereas Gosick is a mystery stacked atop mystery finding meaning behind many questions in Victorique's life, as well as her needing Kujo to cure boredom.
Both are good historical anime that execute well in what they set out to achieve. Also, both protagonists are blonde beauties if nothing else.
