Both involve girls (in all-girl schools) who decide to form a band/group. Though, Love Live! School Idol Project takes on a bit of an interesting twist.

This is a pretty obvious recommendation, but one that I think deserves mentioning regardless. Not only are they both light-hearted slice-of-life shows about cute girls singing great music, but several of the characters in both shows are similar to each other:
