Magical girls, two guys, two girls.
Both very emotional.
Both deal with the theme of "Fate"
Both have unique storytelling methods, great animation, and a sort of ethereal feel to them. Almost like they blend dream and reality. Stylistically these struck me as very similar
Both are magical girl shows with trippy themes, not usually associated with the genre. Both feature characters trying to circumvent fate.
Although Mawaru penguin drum definitely is more appealing to the eye.

Both stories can get pretty fucking surreal from time to time and both also have a focus on fighting against what destiny has in store for the characters as well too and both feature a girl that uses an entertainer as a magical girl as well too in this case for princess tutu it’s a ballerina while in penguindrum it would be an idol.
