Both anime display some similarities:
- An important member of the heroine's family is killed, ultimately leading her to her change of path.
- A main guy who used to be kind but then became a cruel king.
- The heroine seems weak at first but later becomes a strong leading lady.
- The heroine cuts her hair and becomes the leader of a large group.
- Heroine adopts a small animal.
- Romance.
Weak girl needs to get strong and find allies to fight for her country. Both have a good story and character developement.
These two series are both action packed stories with a female lead who grows into a more powerful woman out of necessity. Both living in harsh worlds, these women struggle to live and fall in love in the process.
Legend of Basara is a bit more dark than Yona of the Dawn and the main male love interests are rather different too. In Yona of the Dawn, the main male love interest is a bodyguard who has always been loyal to the protagonist. While in Legend of Basara, the main male love interest is technically the protagonist’s enemy.
