GX S1 had a villain who was doing some dark alchemy-related stuff. Why not try watching a show which has more of that?
After "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" the 2003 "Fullmetal Alchemist" series (and CoS film) is an interesting watch. It starts quite the same but goes in a different direction and you get to compare how the things go. It feels kind of like that series' own GX.
