I personally love the main character and sidekick chemistry and both these animes share that as well as the supernatural aspect and fighting against strange creatures.
But the similarities end there, Ultramarine Magmell is less serious and not as well polished in terms of animation or story but for someone whos looking for "another anime" with that chemistry mentioned earlier this could be one.
