Both are Shounen ai donghuas with a lot of chemistry between the two male leads. It is also based in a historical Chinese setting and uses the concept of "power". In addition, if you like pretty faces then it's definitely for you. There's mystery genre based situations too. Overall, a definite recommendation for anyone who enjoyed Tian Guan Ci Fu!

the original novels are both written by mo xiang tong xiu, and they have a very similar vibe. they're both action stories about cultivation with a lovely touch of BL romance. also, beautiful animation styles and brilliant storylines; they are my two top favourite anime.
By the same author and same genre (xianxia--Chinese historical stuff & danmei--CN BL). I will say MDZS has a more enjoyable plot than TGCF (as in its more action heavy but not too action heavy to the point its a battle shonen), and I think the characters are a lot more fun to watch.
