I think its two things here
They both share this atmosphere of an eternal world, or just the vastness and unknowing. Ambient
On top of that the use of colors, while in Sonny boy it's the black, but in future episodes they use stunning amounts of neons, in Kaiba they use all sorts of colors to display the strange and unknowns planets all across the galaxy.
Both have unique and vibrant animation styles. They also both have a majority of their episodes follow the same format (tell a story of a new character living in a weird world with it somehow minorly relating to the MC and their journey)
I find that both of these works have a surrealist and very fluid animation style, and the form of story telling, to me, is quite similar in many ways. Both made and are actively making me think deeply on life which is always a plus
