Deconstructions of their respective mecha subgenres, they explore the concept of human will: its manifestation as power to control, create, overcome, and bring about apocalyptic danger.
Well, first of all is the out of this world mecha action, more present in Gurren Lagaan. The sound tracks in both of these shows is fabulous. The two anime give off the same kind of feeling. The characters are all mulit-dimensional and deal with real life emotional and traumatic situations. There is also romance in both (more so in Escaflowne, by far) which adds to the story :). They are 26 episodes each and while Gurren Lagaan is much newer they are both worth watching!

*Both are epics.
*They both fall under the Mecha genre.
*Both are about the world being destroyed/taken over by an imposing threat.
*Both contain some romance more so in Escaflowne.
*Both are similar in length of about 26 episodes long.
Gurren Lagann is much more over the top and fast paced while Escaflowne is more reserved. Both are very poetic shows but portray it in different ways.
