Sure. :)
So, as soon as someone changes the status of the anime to completed, if the number of episodes in the anime are known to MAL, it automatically fills in the number of episodes watched to the total number of episodes, but if we're talking about me in specific, I don't see any anime which I have filled in as completed that only have half the episodes filled in them, but maybe I do have a few such manga, because MAL is unable to keep up with the many (40000+)manga, even if I fill them in as completed MAL isn't sure about the number of chapters. I hope my answer was of help to you! :))
And hey! How's everything? :O

So you're watching Gintama that's great.
Well let me give you an advice.
Just for your information.
The first Episodes and following few Episodes can be quite average.
I know that it can be for many people, so maybe for you as well.
But it will improve a lot afterwards.
So I hope you will keep on watching Gintama
