Lets see...uh, brother, son, nerd. That pretty much sums me up nicely. My brother is a great artist and taught me a lot of cool stuff, so I spent much of my time in school doodling (instead of doing, you know, school work!). So I then developed a love for art and animation.
My first brush with Anime was when i was visiting Colombia (south america) when I was little and watching a spanish dub version of the anime "Knights of the Zodiac" (or Saint Seiya). Being only exposed to Disney until then I marveled at the different art style, edginess, violence and gripping drama (for the time) and thinking to myself "Wow, Spanish cartoons are awesome!" Oh how naive I was...
Next was YTV's presentation of dragonball Z and Gundam Wing. I was starting to warm up to this "japanimation" movement but I still wasn't completely sold. That is until Visions of Escaflowne started airing and totally blew me away. Bam! Hooked! The art was consistant and fantastic (cg textured dragons!), the story well paced, engaging and unique (for me anyway). And the characters were layered and interesting (and look cool, too!). Up until then there were no serialized animated shows on cable tv (or live action until 24 rolled in) and I really couldn't miss an episode. It was new form of story telling in my eyes and i wanted more. Turns out Japan has been doing this for years and i've been playing catch up ever since.
