Yup me too, I like reading manga way better than watching anime except of sports genre and things like AoT where the anime adaptation is just really good. In case like AoT, I prefer to watch the anime entirely and maybe I'll pick up the manga after the anime is completed. Sure take your time, I hope you'll like my recommendation. I've read Holyland and I think it's pretty good. A bit dark, but not to the point it becomes too depressing (that's the case with Oyasumi Punpun for me). I don't really like the ending but overall it's a good manga.
It's a very good movie, one of Mamoru Oshiis best. I prefer the more philosophical approach of the second movie a little bit more tho. I recommend watching it, the OVA and TV series if you haven't seen them. All good stuff.
I know what you want to say regarding newer audience I myself created the same type of thread Here but you need to put yourself in other's shows for a bit and think about it for a moment that there's a certain character or anime that you cherished and enjoy for a long time or even any other thing unrelated to anime and just love it but some random guy come out of the blue and make a joke about that certain thing I can't tell how you react but I at least feel a bit hurtled or sad and some people's even start to fight with that person that's how mentality works as you can see we both are different with having different perspective on things and that's how different others are.
