Yeah. I'd guess that everyone who enjoys Kuzu No Honkai is able to meet the characters on some personal level. Whether they can relate to being obsessed with someone that would never like them back, depression caused by rejection, you know a narcissistic man eater like Akane, confused as to whether you have any self worth aside from sexual attraction or are a queer person with pent up frustrations that would explode if the person of your dreams ever allowed you inside their circle. I'd say Hanabi is complicit in what Ecchan wound up going through, she craved that obsession and admitted such in one of her poetic monologues.

Kuzu is definitely not for everyone so I do understand the negative reaction to it. I just like getting other perspectives, helps me to understand both sides of the argument. I'd suppose Kare Kano is a better romantic drama for people to relate to because of how easy to like Arima and Miyazawa are and how they use each other for empowerment.

Kuzu No Honkai is about two things - teenage psychology on the subject of love, how they make the mistake of equating their self worth with sexual desire, and what tends to evolve from an unrequited love. It's the most miserable emotion of all to not be able to share yourself with the person who brings color to your world. You will make terrible mistakes under the influence of that pain, especially if you're a kid just entering the precipice of understanding your sexuality. This is taken even further with Ecchan who's queer! Imagined how confused she is. Kuzu No Honaki includes a gay relationship not to pander to a segment of viewers who like yuri, but to offer a commentary on how hard it can be for gay people to fall for those that will never like them back. I know gay people who have gone through that same type of arc, albeit less dramatic. Even further look at Hanabi's backstory. Her father left her at an early age. She's compensating for the lack of a father figure with reciprocated desire from whoever will give it to her. That is a trauma that exists in real life.

Sex is just a rampant, unavoidable thing that shouldn't be censored in an anime that wants to have a serious discussion on love. Holding hands isn't gonna cut it. Keep note that during every intimacy session is an inner monologue that extends further than moans and groans. That at least can be appreciated.

There is character development. Ecchan, Hanabi and Moka have all changed. Akane is about to. It's not just them evolving by making out, but learning that it won't satisfy their larger issues.

The story of Kuzu No Honkai is great but it has to be something you can relate to for it to get across properly. I would guess this is the problem most people have who don't enjoy it, which is understandable but so should be the other side of the community who considers the show brilliant.

It's not really that often, the makeout sessions aren't sex. Intimacy is something that should be shown even more in anime rather than being used in moderation. People hook up all the time in this world

I can get some people being uncomfortable with the intimacy scenes, but it does work for what Kuzu No Honkai is trying to get across.

Read your Kuzu No Honkai review. The story is framed around the psychology of unrequited love and how that can develop into obsession, depression. That is more relatable than the anime that paint romance as a rosy picture where everything goes right.

Frivolous sex, using other people to get over a failed love is very common and well depicted, even if taken to an extreme with Akane
It’s time to ditch the text file.
