Ookami-san To Shichinin No Nakama-tachi was an all around average series. It had some interesting elements, such as the revamped story book characters and the overall plot was good however it often missed on its pacing, progression, and overall wow factor.
The art was Good throughout featuring unique looking characters and the scenery and backgrounds were clean as well. The characters themselves being based on fairy tale characters was a unique concept though this could of been expanded on throughout the show and made into a more interesting feature.
This series features a narrator which to be blunt was the most annoying thing
...
I have yet to incounter in any anime. Not only was the narrator there for comic relief mostly, but in addition to the inaffective jokes, she would talk over the characters conversations often at crucial plot points. The narrator became even more agrivating as the series went on and she began to repeat character introductions. Furthermore when the transition from the anime talking to the narrator butting in happened it often caused the sound quality to lowered, and the volumn would fluctuate on the transition. This series would of been better off without this feature.
The character progression focused mostly on Ryoushi and Ryouko who grew as the story moved forward. The side characters changed little and though I was mostly watching for the story between the two characters it seemed the others around them went through a lot as well but hardly changed. It made the story feel closed off and distanced the Ryoushi and Ryouko from the rest of their group.
Finally the pacing of the story was not great. It seems to me first of all that episode 12 should of came before episode 10 and 11, from a climatic standpoint. Furthermore the progression of Ryoushi was all over the place as in some episodes he would do better with his phobia but then the very next he would seem much worse. I more or less like pacing that has a grand cressendo with a nice neat finish, which this series did not have in my opinion at all.
However, despite the many set backs I did ultimately get caught up in the love story, laugh with the puns and comedy, and feel the struggles of the hero and heroine as they made their way through their ordeals. So as entertainment goes this anime series did its job for me there, though I will probably not recommend it unless it seems to fit an individuals personality or anime likes.

This anime series was recommended to me some time back by ours truly @Xoiea. After reading the description I pushed some of his other recommendations ahead of this series but like I have said here before descriptions often downplay the plot and anime as a whole as is the case with Chrome Shelled Regios.
This series is about a hero with past inner conflicts fighting for what he believes in a world now overrun with a ruthless alien race. As his past catches up with his new life how will his newly acquired comrades react and how will he deal with the pressures as he journeys
...
forward.
Even my above description though a little more mysterious and open ended than what is posted on MAL and especially on Netflix I still would have to say even it pales in comparison with the overall Anime.
I praise the work of the artists on CSR in not only portraying advanced yet historic feeling cities, but even the depth of the barren landscapes, and the clean edges of the lighting effects. The characters also were greatly animated And portrayed in the script and by the voice actor each giving their very own emotion and background which is not always common in a 24 episode series with a plot such as this one.
The plot and script are action heavy but hey, this is an action anime with romance as a second. Though you begin to feel the sparks between characters and a harem of sorts begins to form you are quickly pulled back into the story of the Heros fight within himself and with the aliens. The plot has depth which involves intermingling stories from differentiating perspectives, a long line of characters including supernatural beings, and even a multitude of cities all with their own character and politics inside and out.
My only gripe with this series is that the last 3 episodes felt very rushed. I appreciate all the work the story writers went through to develop relationships between the characters which adds an emotional connection to the plot however I feel this could of been fixed by trimming 1-2 episodes worth of material from the front half of the anime and there by better allow the plot to unfold in more appropriate and better drawn out time at the end to cleanly finish the series.
This series I give and 8/10 and highly recommend it to those interested in action heavy anime with a mild wisp of romantic developments between the characters. Though i did thoroughly enjoy this series it will not break my top ten because in my mind it is a few episodes or even a season short of adequately fulfilling all sets needed on this complex of a plot to become a masterpiece.

In my constant search of “New to me Anime” I came across a series called “Working”. At first glance by the MyAnimeList.net description I was unsure if I would like it, however I always test 1-2 episodes before dropping the heavy hammer of a negative verdict as often the description does not do the series justice.
As often is the case the description in my eyes did not do justice to this anime series. I watched 1 episode and found myself laughing out loud at this series. Over the next 24 hours I could not get enough and despite working and spending time
...
with the family I blew through season 1. I found this series to be a hillarious depiction of life, focusing on the personality differences of people working together and their interactions or lack of interactions depending on how these personalities coexist. Of course hillarity ensued over the course of a few episodes and just when I thought I had seen all that I could they added a waitress who is so scared of men she hits them and runs away screaming! My stomach began to ache as the laughter poured out of me as situation and personalities continuously piled one on top of another.
Currently only season 1 has aired however season 2 has been announced however it will feature a new director and lead script writer, and the date has yet to be confirmed for airing. (04/02/2011 announced) Source: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-04-01/working/wagnaria-tv-anime-gets-second-season
I can only catagorize this anime as a must watch, slice of life, romance. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a good laugh.

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu
Nogizaka Haruka No Himitsu is an anime about two people from different classes. On one hand you have Yuuto Ayase who is average and plain in every way, and on the other you have Haruka Nogizaka who is rich, famous pianist, and the most popular and sought after girl in the school. These two cross paths in a set of unlikely coincidences at which time Yuuto discovers a deep dark secret which could crush the popular lifestyle of Haruka. Haruka is an otaku. To Haruka’s relief Yuuto, though average, is a very honest and caring person and
...
he promises to keep her secret, and support her with her hobby as anunwavering friend.
If the discription of Nogizaka Haruka No Himitsu sounds familiar it is becuase you are right “Ore No Imouto” has a VERY similar plot aside from the fact that Haruka and Yuuto are not blood related and the fact that “Ore no Imouto” was a far better series. Though it is a generic plot at this point the series did have a sweet feel which makes you root for Yuuto and Haruka through all their ordeals. The characters were well drawn, though the backgrounds felt stagnent and a little dreary for a slice of life romance anime. Character progression was focused on emotional developments betwen the characters which left a linear feeling, until the end when these emotions were fully realized. What was really lacking in this series was a love rival, which I originally thought would be played by Shiina Amamiya, however I was dreadfully disappointed.
Overall the series was light hearted, sweet, and funny at times, but overall average for an anime. Some competition, and perhaps earlier conflicts in the budding relationship would of added to the excitement around this series. Due to this I give this anime a 5/10. It was interesting, but average all around.

Fate/Stay Night
This is a much long overdue post which I have been putting off due to the sheer weight of responsibility I hold to even utter the name of this anime in an attempt to write a review on it. There is a reason that on MAL the rating system jumps from great all the way to masterpiece and that is because of the select few animes like Fate/Stay Night which shoot out from the masses and reach the infinities of the sky and continue onward into greatness. For me Fate/Stay Night is one such anime and I hope to the best of my
...
ability to tell you why and in the process using FSN as a template will also reveal to you what anime is to me.
Plot and story of course play an intricate roll in any story and anime is no different without an interesting set of events and purpose to tie in all the characters the anime will lose it’s drive. In FSN this drive is a competition in which the winner calls upon heroes to fight for and along side of them so that they may gain an item which can grant them any one desire. Now a driving factor is merely one part but emotional involvement is another and FSN delivers again providing not only romantic feelings but also of sorrow and past pains which are brought to light throughout the competition as each character fights for what they believe is their truth.
The art is beautiful in it’s simplistic elegance as the scenery quickly changes from dreary and dark to bright and whimsical in the smoothest of transitions. The physics of the wind playing on the characters clothing as beams of light radiate through the clouds in the sky is gorgeous to behold even on streaming web browser. Perhaps though most importantly in an anime are the eyes which without even hearing words spoken between characters at time you can read their thoughts through them making you question reality and think for a moment that this 2d character really perhaps possesses a soul. The ability to draw in and audience without words is the most important item to give to insure emotional attachment is triggered.
Character developement is a key feature which unfortunately is sometimes missed in lesser anime. If characters do not develop mentally, physically, or emotionally then the plot has failed and the character has under went many ordeals throughout their path all for not. FSN focuses on many key characters and each of them develop in their own ways. Wether it be building solid friendships, realizing feelings of love, or weakness becoming courage. It is keenly portrayed and the constant change in everyone involved leads to a feeling of fulfillment in the viewer.
Emotional attachment is simply the ability to draw in an audience and cause them to become attached to the story and the characters and the characters story. This is accomplished by the accumulation of all parts aforementioned in this posting. A true masterpiece will leave the viewer dealing after every scene longing for more and will even cause tears to well up inside as tough decisions are made. In FSN this is met very well and is hard to describe without spoilers so I will merely state that you will feel every emotion strongly as you watch this series. You will rise with the characters, and fall with them, as their ordeals and views push them forward and you along with them towards their goals.
As you can see by this post FSN is my favorite anime which I have watched many times, however to me it is also a template for anime. It is such a masterpiece that I hold all others up against the guidelines which I first saw in this series. The reason I watch anime is because of FSN, it was my first glimpse into the greatness of anime, breaking away from my earlier preconcieved notions which were derived souly on the mainstream anime easily available in the states such as: Dragonball. FSN broke the mold for me and showed me that not only is anime a bunch of large eyed, funny haired, fighting characters but also that it can be an emotional journey which forged through coupling a fantastic story with great animation. Perhaps this is the real reason I see FSN as such a great masterpiece, either way I love this series, its story, its art, its characters, and its comforting ability to whisk my mind to a different setting. Rating 10/10 masterpiece and highly recommended.
