I've yet to see a post that isn't a duplicated one this month. People are just too lazy to search for older posts

Its not the same person shitposting usually. It's just that it pops up every now and then. Nothing surprising

Lol. You'll find out soon enough that we get at least one or two of these elitist/elitism posts every month. NenuserZodiac's post is nothing new.

It's fine, I figured your just passionate about anime and held your own disdain for something in this industry that this series was prodding.

That's not really all that this show has to offer though In terms of challenging feelings, atleast In my opinion. This show certainly banks on the feeling of unease with the death of its characters, however I believe the stronger element of the unease is specifically what they have to do in order to survive and how the characters react in light of those situations. I think where we differ is that you look at the common themes and points of this anime in comparison to what's out there in this genre and see that it's absolutely the same as the others, and with that I agree. However where I'm coming from is that I believe how they get you to those challenging feelings specifically is atypical, I can't really say ive seen any anime that has put the MC in a situation where he has to force his best friend to sleep with the person he loves in order to save his life. Every characters feelings in that situation were slightly interesting in my opinion. The MC who doesn't hesitate in the slightest and knows immediately that his friends life trumps the challenge of those situation, his love who understood this and knew she had to do what she could to save her and his friends life, and the friend who would have rather died than be put in that situation who ended up needing to be forced to go through with it.

Obviously not a incredibly meaningful insight into human character or anything like that, however I did think it was interesting, entertaining and slightly thought provoking. And I believe that's kinda what the strength of this anime is more so than just the pure survival aspect of it.

Haha it's funny you mention Higurashi with that sentiment, that actually was one of my favorite animes I stumbled upon growing up. My response to this is, well personally I guess that comes down to opinion, because I don't really see having a insane character as a cliches that's overused. I mean when you think about it, every story in general has strong elements that stem from archetypes that have been passed down generation after generation. So I don't really think just because it's a reoccurring element in survival anime to have insane characters immediately makes it an overused cliche, I think it depends on how they go about the character themselves specifically.

No worries, I actually don't really get to discuss anime much in my personal life so I'm happy to debate this topic haha.

Again I don't really believe that the survival aspect is necessarily what needs to be the strongest element of a phsycological/horror/survival genre to make it enjoyable. Also one thing I think I need to make clear, is that i by no means think this anime is the best, Its just pretty good to me. Its nowhere near my first choice lol. However I do find that out of what's coming out this season, it's one of the few that occasionally leave me in anticipation of what will happen in next week's episode.

But if you don't really have any series you've watched In these genres that you can highly regard, perhaps it just doesn't hit something for you. Sometimes things really do just come down to perception, and we all look at things differently.

What's some of your favorite work? (regardless of genre)

I would argue that in comparison to other themes in the industry it isn't one that has been excessively overused. Plus, I never even stated it was the only one of its kind, I admitted it surely wasn't the most original anime, however what made it atypical were the challenging/unsettling feelings it throws at you.

There are a few things it does that you for certain will not be able to see. One of these is that whoever did the subs also did subtitles of most things in the background. So if they look at their phone for example, it will fill the entire screen with text. You don't really need to read it but it just throws a huge wall of text at you and can be disorienting. Another is the subtitlers try to explain the jokes that you would only get from the Japanese language or know a lot about the subject matter such as describing what a certain game genre. This usually fills half the screen and you actually need to read these to understand what is going on in the plot. They are only up for a split second so you will probably need to go back and pause on the screen. Hoped this explanation helped elaborate on what I meant. Thanks for asking.
