I'm still editing my rating scale as my tastes have changed over the years, but it's close to how I would grade an essay. I don't particularly enjoy anything at a 6 or below and generally drop those, so there's some standard before even reaching completed status. Here's a brief summary:
- 10/10 - A - Nothing is perfect, but this show had something undoubtedly good. It made a deep connection with me about something, whether that's romance, comedy, existentialism, or how I felt at some point in my life (e.g. joining the working world). This show may have inspired me to do something or change a part of myself or increase my empathy. Pieces of it are so good that I easily ignore its flaws; love is blind, after all. I've rewatched or am planning to rewatch all of these multiple times.
- 9/10 - A- - I really enjoyed this. This show was good on many levels and it made an emotional connection with me. Willing to ignore some of it's flaws because of how great it felt to watch. I've rewatched many of these.
- 8/10 - B - A good show. I enjoyed this show and might consider rewatching it.
- 7/10 - C - A passing score. The default score I give. This show is decent and though it has it's faults, it was still enjoyable. Nothing particularly stand out here. I generally don't consider rewatching these.
- 6/10 - D - A failing score. Most of these are shows that just have 0 substance and repeat common tropes. There was something I enjoyed here though, so it has a saving grace from a 5.
- 5/10 - F - I kind of regret watching this. I either didn't enjoy this at all and was just watching because I wanted something to watch, or there's something terrible about this that genuinely annoyed me to watch.
- Below a 5 means that the show was awful, but there are differences in the level of awful.
I try to give "benefit of the doubt" where possible.
Some series I wish were split up more as I would rank one part a 9/10 and another a 3/10 (e.g. Fairy Tail's Zero Arc and Fairy Tail's Tartaros Arc). The score I ended up giving probably doesn't do it justice in either bashing or liking :/
Certain things I'm a sucker for, like really good romance, or OP characters, or the "underdog turned overdog" trope, or SciFi that's actually believable, or fantasy world-building that makes me generally curious about the world. These things usually relate to some experience I've previously had, a value I hold deeply, or my inner curiosity and imagination, so I can't help but give a good rating.
