It has been a long time since I gave a 10....and as I absolutely LOVE Science Fction, then the time has come!
From sound to artwork and characters design (once you get used to is refreshing newness due the use of CGI) this series is a marvel!!!
If you know science fiction, there are echoes here of great masterpieces from Peter F. Hamilton, Iain M Banks (oh sweet Izana, I love your character!), Dan Simmons, Gregory Benford, and more...antounding and shows the author trully loves science fiction and has made his homework into what is best out there in the genre.
The space sequences, the way they
...
maneuver and the takes from the "camera" are so enticing and cinematic that you can feel the Sidonia in its massiveness flying. The battle frames in action...perfect! And the Gauna terrifying since their first appearance.
The Gauna, terrifying and yet misterious in an interesting way...perfect!
I just hope the sequel takes the story ahead keeping the high quality seen so far.
As it is now, SnK is a Masterpiece, and I will surelly watch it again and again until more comes!
I just hope more true Science Fiction pieces start to come forth. If new series have half the attention and care into this genre. I will be really happy!!!

I could write an essay here, but such thing, wrapping up the feeling lingering in my heart after watching this movie, would be senseless.
Lets be more simple and direct: BEAUTIFUL
Beauty express itself in this piece of art, loud and clear, yet warmly and tenderly.
Simple as that.

Some reviews are harsh, some are good, ad here is my piece of mind: I like this anime. Granted it could ghave been a lot more, but as it is using the works of a Master Writer as H.P. Lovecraft and makes a parody with the Chthulhu Mytos, the idea itself would deserve a 9, not even counting its audacity!
Those that know H.P.Lovecraft will laugh and recognize a lot on this story, especially the presence of the Yith, the Mi-go and Nyarlatothep of course. The use of such characters (Cthuga is very funny, and given its original being so much powerful and terrfic,
...
even more hilarious).
As Lovecraft's work can be considered Science Fiction, the way it was parodied here is fantastic, and many parts are so much more funny if you know what and which stories its parodiy comes from.
When I first knew what was the concept of this anime I was thrilled, and even though it is parody I laughed a lot.
That being said, I also like strong female characters with resolution and decisiveness, and Nyaruko knows what she wants. The boy is your regular dork and waste his time refusing the adorable Nyaruko (aha, must have a reason for the gags, as her atempts are funny). Chthuga is funny, but I am not a fan of Yuri anyway, but she is ot the aggressive one against the male character as in other stories and that was refreshing.
Of course they could have done much, much more with such an idea, but as this is a parody, then ok.
I recomend it for its execution, art, music, and for its origial and daring concept! And if you know or not Lovecraft's works, either way you will laugh a lot (although it is much more fun for those that do read Lovecraft's works)

LAST EXILE sequel is not pair to its predecessor, sure, but it does have its flavour, and does have a nice pace. We see people doing things they believe, and there are no true villains, but people trying to struggle against what they perceive as wrong. That I really like. Pitty is GONZO did not went all the way with the possible potential with this story, and some gaps were left which should have being explained (like Dio surviving a fall inside Prester Grand Stream) or if they really abandoned it, which is very likely, as Anatoray-Disith were facing famine and lack of resources
...
on a probably spent habitat. The idea goes near Ergo Proxy outline story, and could have been more well explored, as wel as Anatoray-Disith part could have been a lot more well explored than what it was (although it was nice to see Sofia and the Sylvana back on....). It was also not explained why Luscinia feared Prester Exile (it was mentioned by Dio, and that part was abandoned along the way) and it sure had a different design from the ones left orbiting Earth. All in all I liked it and prefer to see it by itself, and by doing it we can enjoy the anime. I rated it great therefore. Of course could it have been a lot more, but given that lately animes are far less interesting storywise, I still praise this one. Good science fiction animes are day by day growing distant, unlike the old days when AIC, GONZO and some others really cared and did great stories
I only regret that no other sequels will come...or even an alternate version. Have they hired a good science fiction writer this could have soared, like its predecessor...and as GONZO needed it, they should have been more caring. LAST EXILE sequel could have been a landmark on science fiction anime, and that genre sure needs some attention, but it failed on that, although it is still a great anime per si.
Saddens me a bit as I have been dreaming with this sequel for years (I even wrote on Forii back then what the sequel could be (which I hit on target somewhat XD) but reality slapped on my face.
But I keep my rating, and I sure hope that science fiction animes will rise back to what it was in the past...

I did not give a straight 10 due art and sound. But on all other aspects it is a straight 10!!! When I read somewhere this was a kind of retelling of OneTei I jumped to it, but I did not expected it to go extremely RIGHT on the aspects I did find fault on one of my best loved animes of all time (OneTei). The Art could have been more similar (Onegai Teacher is gorgeous in that aspect) as well as sound which were flawless on OneTei, but Ano Natsu de Matteru is simply delicious to watch and the plot/characters/story is so well done
...
it made me watch it all at once! I went through it all in one go (after two weeks of training on my job that was a nice relaxing time) and it left me with a satisfaction sometimes not found after watching a series. The MIB references were really hilarious and this series rank among those were relationships are not taken in a shallow, idiotic way. All characters are interesting and not a single one is stupid or really infantile. Actions are taken with thought and intent, and there is no reasonlless drama like happened in OneTei at its end (the great flaw at the end of that series, although its manga goes right on that aspect) Characters are sincere and take real action, not wallowing on stupid, stalling drama and self pity or denying themselves like I saw on other similar series. We see characters going after their dreams and the main protagonists are like us, in their doubts and actions. Ok, at the end the action was offboard, but that was ok with the mood, and the Ichigo counterpart here, Lemon (aha, first a strawberry, now a lemon...nice twist if you get what I mean) was great to see in action.
The love entanglements were really well done and even a bit surprising with 3 characters, and really well handled. Had OneTei went like this in regards of the love dramas there it would have been perfect...but then it was close to that anyway.
Best of all, the end is what I was hopping for, and on that aspect mirrorred OneTei (I feared it would not be so but then the last scenes were gratifying and cute).
I would like to see an OVA depicting what came after...maybe not a series (not necessary) but an OVA could be nice, with room for some more comedy this time (so much room there, like Ichika's family, the MIB, the Federation....)
I love this little unpretentious Masterpiece and Ano Natsu de Matteru is for me one of my most loved series!

Straight 10 for me, for I loved all aspects of this anime: plot, art, OST, characters....name it and I loved it.
I do understand what Daikichi character thinks, for I married my wife at 22, and she already had 2 kids (a girl and a boy) and I had to learn from scratch how to be a parent, benig myself raised by my mother alone, so I do see what are the challenges, and what are the rewards, and few of those change with different cultures as I can see how this story was handled.
I do not know the manga, though I will look for it,
...
but the anime is a jewel, and the only one I started watching before having the whole series with me. Every week waiting for the next installment. The simple things in life may be so delightfull and this story shows that.
I sure advise to watch it and I am happy that we can expect such jewels to come about now and then!

A straight 9 in all points, I put Kimikiss into those animes that whereas they may not be classics, they are wonderfully done and thoroughly enjoyable.
Characters are well defined and placed and the situations put into the story are near life, common day ones in most plots (not so with Futami and Aihara - my favorite characters as well, but just at the start, then their story is sweet and plausible, and by far the cutest in this anime to the very end)
Plot may be simple, but so well done that every episode is a joy to watch, and the end was not predictable
...
even near the last one, and the end for each couple is sweet, and cute.
There are echoes from Ichigo 100% regarding Yumi story, and those watching it will understand why...although I agree with Kimikiss end, and disliked Ichigo 100%
A sure tittle to have on your collection, especially if you love romance with the right amount of comedy and angst, without grue and idiocy to it.
Sweet Sweet Sweet!
My only complain, if I can say so, is about Sakino Asuka. She is my second favorite character in this anime (Futami Eriko being the first) and deserved more screen time!

I read some reviews a bit harsh to this anime, but they tend to follow what I think is a wrong trend , trying to be too brainy into what is to be entertainment...and this series is really entertaining.
Springing forth from a rather dreary theme, and setting it with an intriguing fantasy reality and with interesting characters, every episode is very enjoyable, and the main protagonists all are interesting and well performed.
Art is unique and makes use of good coloring, adding a real nice overall visual feel to the story.
Sound and music are really good as well.
I do think they could have gone deeper
...
with Mashiru and her Entrer, but the concepts and ideas are original enough and the story is well handled, if rushed in the end, therefore my 7 to overall rating.
I do think some reviewers are way too harsh and sometimes fail to simply enjoy a really entertaining and well handled anime...trying to see too much where simple enjoyment is enough.
Well, those are my ideas anyway....and I do recommend C...

After watching the frst two episodes, and being myself not a fan of Type Moon at all (I am not a gamer, and aside Kara no Kyoukai wich is a masterpiece, I generally dislike Type Moon ) I must say I enjoyed a lot Carnival Phantasm.
It is true that knowing a bit of the terribly confuse and disjointed mumble jumbo from Type Moon adds to the experience, but even if you do not know (or in my case, not appreciates) Type Moon's works, this anime is great to watch, really fun and with a really well done animation.
Characters are fun to watch
...
and the gags are fun to anyone watching it.
I also need to comend the OP, wich is gourgeous and with a nice song as well. Having the characters in that nice coreography is great, and they proved to do such in a way pair with Kyoto Animation, who in my opinion masters this kind of OP absolutey. A joy to watch!
I am now entranced to this anime, and it is now a treasured part of my collection, and I sure recommend it, even if you, like me, is not part of the Type Moon's fanclub.

As someone who saw ALL animation versions fom the X-men since the 80's, and free of any animations puritanism over antiques, I must say this was BY FAR the best X-men adaptation I have ever seen. Art, characterization, sound...all melded perfectly and I just do not score it higher because the story itself was common...but given that Marvel creates some Universal Threatr every week or so, that was not something to blame the anime, but more the Ethos of Marvel characters and Universe.
I loved this anime, and I sincerely hope they make a Season II, then III and so on...
I would like to
...
see Phoenix again, then Lilandra and the Shiar Empire and others...lets see.
I really think this trend with heroes is a really refreshing one using the real masters of animation to create something better than the dull adaptations made to this day by US studios.
