When the anime is following the manga, it's brilliant. It had all the character dynamics and edgy atmosphere that makes the manga so well-liked. Towards the end when it has to divert and do its own thing it doesn't quite keep tempo. It becomes less about telling an emotional story and more about how can we kill this character off. In a war like what's being presented you expect some deaths and even early on when a character died it was shocking. Unfortunately after killing too many people off randomly every episode it starts to lose the shock factor. I'm starting this a bit too

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero

This had a very classic Dragon Ball story. I love how it managed to bring most of the cast in (even if some were just cameos) and the callbacks to lore that seemed long forgotten. Of the modern Dragon Ball movies (Battle of Gods-now) this is easily the best written. The animation takes awhile to get used to. There are some moments where it looks really odd/kinda bad, but the last 30-45 minutes look beautiful. One very glaring issue though is the vibe is kinda off. I don't often write reviews as I like to just enjoy and appreciate what I'm watching, but this anime was a complete waste of time. Not to sound immature but with the fantasy RPG setting, the massive franchise it spawned, and the flashy upbeat opening, I thought this was gonna be some grand, action-packed epic adventure. It was not. It's 26 episodes of everyone just moping and talking. Not that talking's bad, but where did any of these conversations go? Absolutely nowhere. I don't care about any of these characters. As a fan of the first two Black Lagoon seasons, I'm glad I watched this but not totally satisfied. This is one of those arcs that starts out promising and has the potential to be one of the best anime ever, but while it does have its moments, the third episode in particular being one of my favorite Black Lagoon episodes, it is really boring at times. I saw a sub-reddit titled something like "RBT plot explained" that had a lot of comments which would imply this was some complex story that needed explaining.
