It really is one of the greatest shows, for everything that it's worth. I liked your honesty because I watched this show the year it came out without hearing anything about it and it simply just blew me away on my first watch, because I was expecting something mediocre. It was great!

About other show that for my taste may fill your hole (lol) ...
is maybe Code Geass R1+R2 (if you didnt saw it already), It's have alot of that rare similarity to Death Note, but it still have some Ecchi and Maca in him, So to make up for it you have the best finish you will ever see in anime... promised (at the end of the second season).
