This is truly a mixed bag. It's a "movie" that makes me feel it was somehow way too rushed yet also way too slow. After the mere 80 or so minutes, barely anything happened, it's literally the content usually covered in 1 episode of normal anime, maybe at most 2, but it'd be just about a single event rather than anything that deserves to be called a "full story". Thus, it feels rushed because things are just getting started and then, after seemingly nothing really happened, it just ends right at the point where you feel "damn, this is the real start of the story,
...
the prologue is done!". Yet it was so slow because every scene was needlessly dragged out. Pausing for no reason, playing a long "cutscene" with music and just overall incredibly slow conversations. It added to the mood but it would get me fed up after several hours if it kept going that way, yet somehow it ended after only 80 minutes at the point where, due to how slow everything was, nothing had happened except for what felt like the content of 1 episode dragged out.
Another point is that the show felt quite simple. Some people praise it to the high heavens and perhaps it was a true masterpiece at 1995, but now it's really nothing special. The art, while great for its time, is now somewhat dated and not fluent. The overall idea of the "futuristic tech" isn't really so futuristic anymore, many things exist or at least we've read about this stuff at least a hundred times if not more in novels, anime, manga, games or whatever else. Yes, that's right, I called it very simple. The idea it wants to convey and the way it's going about it is so barebones it feels utterly lacking. While it doesn't explain anything at all during the show, it's very easy to understand what's going on thanks to having experienced similar settings over and over again. It brings nothing new at all to the table. While the mood is good and intense, it's also not much more than that. There's a severe lack of emotions, the characters all feel kind of dead/soulless, their reactions underplayed and conversations tepid.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the setting and I found the idea fascinating and quite cool, but it has two flaws that are incredibly big. The first is that it lacks some passion, not action but rather it lacks life and the feeling that things actually matter, it lacks a proper punch, something to make me feel truly immersed, something to make me care. The second thing it sorely lacks is plot and story, which is pretty much related to its length but also the previous point in how it lacks some steam and pace. Things are kept very simple, explanations are at a ridiculous minimum, the characters barely talk at all and when they do, it's dragged out needlessly for "extra dramatic effect". How do you want me to care what happens when you don't inform me of the situation? When things just happens? It just makes me feel disconnected from the story. Another point here is that if this was perhaps 3 hours long, it would probably be able to make for a more satisfying experience. After 80 minutes when it suddenly ends, I was left in disbelief at how abruptly it ended just as things were supposed to be getting started. A HUGE change and now she's about to roam the world or something and BOOM <Insert ending credits here>. I mean, geez. It's like some kind of a tease. Just at the first climax it stops completely, leaving me more confused and wanting to know what'll happen from now on than anything else. It was, no doubt, just a prologue. This entire movie is simply one big prologue, nothing really happens and we just get an initial explanation and idea of what's up, the only thing wrong is that chapter 1 to 100 is missing and we're left with just a damn prologue.
I hope that the stand alone complex will greatly expand upon this and let me know what happens AFTER this movie ended. I want to see some badassery and real story, not just an animated striptease that never goes all the way. I will be very disappointed if the anime doesn't work on how things go after the movie ended. I also hope the pace changes somewhat and the characters become more lively and the story better.
The overall ends up at 7 for good sound, good mood, pretty nice characters and very good art for its time. Sadly, the story is underwhelming as nothing much really happened and nothing connects properly and my enjoyment would be a 5 for mediocre. It's definitely watchable and unusual but not something I'd watch again. Loved the idea, disliked the execution. Here I go, stand alone complex, show me that the potential can be excavated! Not extremely optimistic about the chances though. I don't like how they changed her whole image, seems to put too much emphasis on sex appeal and she seems less like a cyborg and more like a normal human. Can't judge before seeing it though... Still, those almost duck-level lips feel jarring.

Haaaah... Started watching this anime because I like these types of fluffy, silly cute girls doing cute things animes for some breaks after reading some serious stories.
I thought that, hey, 7/10, that's a pretty decent score for an anime like this, must be good enough, right? Usually shows like this rarely get anything but a score below 7/10 even if they're watchable enough.
But no, it's truly amazing how stupid this anime was. It was so stupid that I felt like just dropping it halfway into episode 1. But I gave it a chance and ended up having it on in the background while reading something
...
else(you know, one window with a novel and another with the video side by side). Being good at multitasking, I didn't miss much and it would've been hard to miss anything substantial in an anime like this.
I must say that I'm very surprised by how far some people could go in their pathetic attempt to make money from some special audiences. I like cute girls doing cute things animes, but this is another thing altogether. They're no longer cute girls doing cute things, they're morons doing retarded things and acting in obnoxiously cutesy ways, as if trying to rub it in our faces that they're soo cute. It ends up being so overdone that it feels excessively forced instead of somewhat natural. It's clearly that none of the characters in this anime has an IQ above that of a roadside rock, though at least the rock has the decency of not being in your face, instead lying quietly by the side of the road.
The writers of this little brain cell killer masquerading as a proper anime seems to be making a sport out of thinking up the best way in which to make the characters act incredibly stupid and "cute". Things like them sticking out their tongues for no reason, smiling and jumping around, saying stupid shit, acting out and pretending to be cute in excessive ways is standard fare here. They do incredibly illogical and forced things to seem cute, which ends up making them obnoxious instead as it's just too overdone in a way that it feels very unnatural. As if the authors didn't care at all, just trying to throw in whatever stupid idea they thought of at the moment to make them act cute. It's cringeworthy to say the least.
Seriously... Also, can someone tell me how the big monster/demon with a male voice and pretty much male body and face somehow turned into a tiny little loli after being sent back in time? What do you have to do to turn from a loli into that?
Really, things are so damn stupid in this anime. It's not an enjoyable experience to watch it at all. Please don't watch it if you feel like normal cute girls doing cute things anime are kinda overdone and stupid even if they're enjoyable nonetheless, because this is even more overdone and stupid, to the point where I almost found it offensive, it felt as if the creators were trying to taunt me and insult my intelligence by pretending that this is watchable. Truly pathetic how they even released this thing.
But who knows, maybe you just like things that are incredibly moronic and has no sense whatsoever with characters that makes stupid people look like geniuses. Or you're a kid, then go right ahead. It's fully of nonsense that doesn't need any understanding, colorful artwork with hyperactive girls going gyaa gyaa over everything.

Well, this thing was overhyped. Rather, I think the original novel is really good, probably, but the anime suffers from two major faults that completely ruins the experience for me.
The first is the seeming lack of necessary details to make the watcher feel immersed. Probably, like usual, this was skipped as it's an anime and they need to cut down on everything, but I feel like details and extra side plots would be very important for this anime. It left the story feeling way worse than it should.
The second part that ruins it the most for me is actually the art style. The males are
...
fine enough but the females are atrocious. It's very, very hard for me to take a loli with duck lips seriously. The LN version was way, way, way better, in which she looked properly crazy yet good and "normal" in a way. But the anime butchers this image completely with duck lips as big as most characters' eyes. Doesn't make it better that these lips constantly change in size depending on scene, it's horrifying.
As for Visha, what the heck's up with that? How do you expect me to feel immersed and take things seriously when the girl looks like her father was a moomin and her mother was a moeblob anime girl? I've never seen the likes of it, it looks like she'd fit in an anime for toddlers at best. Rather, can you even call that human? She's either a moomin in disguise or a humanoid slime, but sadly it all comes down to just bad art. Also, look at the original LN illustrations, there is literally, and I mean LITERALLY, no resemblance whatsoever. They're entirely different characters, the visha in the LN looks nice and fitting with the image she's supposed to have, it gives soul to her character and a good mood to the story, meanwhile the anime version is an out of place moomin.
Art matters. Especially in a story like this where things are supposed to be badass, awesome and serious. Then it matters A LOT. Could you take hellsing seriously if alucard turned into a teenage twerp twilight vampire with sparkles all over him? Of course not.
Still, while these flaws ruined the show for me, I still managed to watch it all, probably because the plot itself intrigued me and there was some pretty badass scenes that somehow wasn't completely ruined by the art. If I had read the LN, I would probably just drop this at the first episode because then I'd know the story already and how it was supposed to be and I would be pissed because they ruined the characters by transforming them into monstrosities, but since I haven't, I could somehow enjoy this a bit, it wasn't a complete waste. But if the LN comes out translated, I wouldn't even recommend watching this at all. How it got such high ratings is completely beyond me. It's a 6.5-7/10 star show(which means it's at best average), not an 8+/10 star show(which pretty much only top shows get).

I don't even fully know what to say about this trainwreck. As much as I love the original novel and its humongous after story, this is just too horrible for words.
It's not at the level of being bad at one thing or two things, this piece of sh*t is just horrible all across the board. It's nothing but an insult to the original work and raising the middle finger to every fan out there, it should've never existed and they should be ashamed of themselves for trying to earn money from a good novel with an adaptation that has absolutely no soul or effort in
...
it at all. If there was ever an attempt to just milk money from someone's success, this is it right here, can't get closer than that.
I'll just go across why I despise it so much.
The story is twisted, it's not truly the same story anymore, things have been added that shouldn't be there and ruins the story. That's a big taboo for any adaptation unless there are very special circumstances or done very welll.
The art... don't even get me started, what's up with the art in this anime adaptation? Things look like they were drawn by a newbie anime fan who just got into drawing and can't keep things consistent or adhere to basic anatomy, things just change shape all the time and the characters look horrible. As for the monsters... Wow, I cringed so hard I fell off my chair when I saw them. I just couldn't stop face palming for several minutes. That alone wouldn't ruined the show completely even if every other part was good, it's just that bad.
The sound isn't tactically placed nor are the sounds good in the first place. It adds to making everything feel so bad I couldn't even laugh anymore.
The characters are screwed up and twisted as well, I don't feel like they're truly the same characters I know like my right hand from reading the novel and manga adaptations.
So, it's just plain horrible. It's probably one of, if not THE most, horrible anime adaptation I've ever seen. They didn't even try and shouldn't have been allowed to do the anime adaptation(actually, it'd be even worse if they did try, if that's the case I wonder why they're even trying to make anime when they should go back to the basics). I bet the author cringed and severely regretted his choice to allow them to do so after seeing the result. It's so bad I actually feel sorry for him, no one deserves to have their work that they put their soul into being butchered like this. I know for one I'd wish I could sue their pants off if I was in the same situation... and I'm not even american, but some things cross the line.
Watch this only if you want to see how a truly bad anime looks so that you can appreciate the normal half-baked stuff.

This anime really butchered all the good parts about the novel. The first season was pretty good, the second season was so-so but still managed to include most of the important parts despite many flaws, but this season was horrible if you've read the novel because it's impossible to not compare them.
The first few episodes were decent enough and did a decent job of showing volume 8, albeit missing many parts and exchanging stuff that shouldn't have been exchanged. But things went south from there. It's very obvious, painfully so, that they wanted to force themselves to cram 3 volumes worth of material into
...
13 episodes without actually being able to do so. This resulted in cuts everywhere. So many good parts were ruined.
The art were also average at best, the monsters here generally resembled kids anime ones, be it neuronist, the trolls or the naga who all looks severely lacking in so many ways. They have no details whatsoever, as if the animators just didn't care to give any effort on the matter and made them as plain as possible. Simple colors that might as well have been filled in with a paint bucket tool and without any real features to them. It really removes from entertainment when something that is supposed to be cool is reduced to a children's monster drawing. They also conveniently excluded things like the soul eater mounts for the last battle, not to mention that instead of summoning 500 monsters and entering in a cool way, he came with just a handful ones. It's so disappointing I don't even know where to start, everything is ridiculously underwhelming and there's no sense of immersion whatsoever because everything was dumbed down to oblivion.
As for the parts that were ruined other than the last battle, let's just mention a few things like how almost all the cool and interesting scenes were removed to save time and if they weren't, they were so toned down that they should've just removed them altogether if they weren't going to do it properly. Things gets worse after the first few episodes when they start to rush everything. Enri and company's dinner and events when visiting nazarick were completely glossed over, ainz suddenly finds himself in the capital of the empire without any prior notice and then he's just suddenly hired by the adventurer teams without a proper set-up, then we skip his mock battle with the worker and instantly teleport to nazarick and the entire journey inside was extremely boring as people just died pretty much instantly, chatting between characters are skipped and so are many events leading up to their deaths, we just quickly get teleported around to each individual as they meet their ends without explanation on the matter. Ainz first meeting with fluder, which was originally pretty cool, was summarized in hindsight in a few seconds of animation at the end of an episode without any of the dialogue.
They're essentially butchering the original content completely until we're left with only the absolute main parts of the story, the bare minimum required to make any sense whatsoever and move the story forward. This leaves us with a lackluster anime that lacks everything it should have. It lacks the character development, it lacks the interesting parts, it's void of everything and anything that made overlord a good story. At this point, it's just a dumbed down piece of garbage that isn't worth watching even if you loved the overlord novel. It's not immersive, it's not interesting, the art is skimped on, the story is rushed and even an average anime would do a better job at being interesting and entertaining.
If they can't do it properly with 3 volumes for a 13 episode season, they should cut it down to 2 volumes for a 13 episode season, that way they can include the things that actually makes this into a story instead of just a lackluster and subpar isekai story that barely has anything in common with the overlord novel except for the characters and the overarching plot developments. The plot points are there(like this or that happened), but everything that was supposed to flesh it out is missing. It's like a human without any organs or a pizza without any toppings, essentially just the framework, the dough. Everything that makes it good isn't here.
It's sad when adaptations screw things up to this extent. Not even someone who hasn't read the novel would feel like this is good enough to watch because it simply lacks anything compelling and unique about it, rather, it's subpar to the normal stuff you find everywhere.
Oh, I'll just quickly mention that the overall art is horrible in more ways than just being of shitty single colors, the choppy low-quality 3d crap is ruining WAY too much of the cool moments by looking like trash. This show truly failed in every way imaginable. Screams of cutting the budget in every way imaginable. Season 2 was horrible, but this took it to another level of bad. It defecates on the original story and everything it should be in order to grab some easy cash because people like the novel and the first season was a great success...

This is everything the main anime should've been but wasn't. I actually feel like this author could've made a way, way better manga if he had all the characters from the current one, removed their edgy pasts and inserted them into a weird high school setting like this OVA had. Seriously, the main story is pure, unfiltered garbage. Well, this OVA isn't that good either, but at least it's much better than the real deal. For starters, it properly knows it's a gag comedy and nothing else. If the author had kept true to the premise of his own story without edgy, half-arsed dark pasts
...
and subpar drama mixed with boring comedic relief and dragged-out battles, it would've been so great, prison setting or not.
So, what is this OVA about? Well, nothing much, as it should be. It's all just for laughs. Nothing complicated going on as it parodies the main anime by putting similar events and the same characters into a high school setting where prisoners become students and guards/prison staff becomes teachers and school staff(although there are exceptions to this rule, like hajime being a student instead of a teacher, not that he acts differently from his guard self). I wouldn't say it's hilarious, but at least it managed to make me smile and rinse away the bad taste of the butchered and minced main anime. A good ending to a crappy experience. Recommended watch, although I will never watch or read anything by this author again. Once is enough to know the style of the author and I personally find his style to be almost offensive(things like not staying true to the setting it was supposed to have is something I despise, especially if the author isn't talented enough to connect the parts properly).

Well, what can I say? I'm frankly appalled at how the author cold-heartedly butchered this crap. I'm let down and I want my time back as I feel pretty much tricked in a way. This was supposed to be a nonsense gag comedy, that's what it introduced itself as. Even in season 1, it wasn't THAT bad even if the author decided to introduce a lot of out-of-place serious drama/tragedy into a show that can't survive without being moronic. But in season 2, it was decided that being a gag comedy sucked and they wanted to, all too late, go the more serious shounen battle
...
route with comedic relief in style with such a work, it's not even good comedy anymore, it's just boring crap. Giving it a 4/10 was quite generous of me, I can't see anyone but teens or people who haven't experienced much manga/anime/novels to ever give it a higher score than 6/10, and that's pushing it.
Tsk. How retarded do you have to be to take what people watch your show for and remove it in order to twist and disfigure it into something it can't ever be good at? This is a show that repeatedly goes on about how it's a gag anime and its very title shows that it's not meant to be serious. The flamboyant colors and excessive energy of every character is also something that could never be taken seriously. However, for some reason, they thought it was a good idea to try. If I want tragedy/drama or a nice serious story, I will damn well go read/watch something that is meant to be one, that actually CAN be taken seriously and is interesting. This is just extremely tepid. It doesn't go all out for anything and thus fails big time at everything. I can't take any of the characters seriously and the drama/tragedy is so bad that I don't feel anything for the characters, I've seen so much worse, you want me to feel sympathy for some butthurt chuunibyou-esque people that can't help but feel sorry for themselves over something really stupid? That's just not happening, especially not when there's no good mood going on.
So, now we have a whole bunch of pimped-up chuunibyou-like prisoners and guards looking like peacocks and as colorful as christmas trees running around with the maturity of ten year olds acting cringeworthy and trying way too hard to look cool while we have to sit through their sobstories that no one cared about and that isn't even a big deal to anyone who've watched/read true tragedies/dramas before, I've seen mcs do a hundred times worse things to other people than what these guys has gone through despite being the "good guys", it's so damn mild. The comedy has become just as horrible as the action and drama, it's incredible. Even the first episode wasn't really good despite being full-on comedy, because that idiot in the background just couldn't shut up with his announcements.
The story is just horrible in every way possible. It's pure chaos as it jumps around and can't decide what it wants to be. It's good at nothing and absolutely subpar. The art is probably the thing I can complain the least about, it's the same as season 1 after all, not much to complain about, well, if anything I guess that I'd have to point out that characters and buildings more pimped out than the biggest pimps out there who can't act like adults does not fit in with this more serious story at all. The sound isn't that bad, but I feel like it wasn't anything special, the opening song didn't even change and that was the only thing that pulled the sound score up in the first season. As for the charcaters, pretty much all of them are either boring or irritating, they have no proper personality, sure, they have extreme traits but that's all they are, they feel empty and dead, like machines. My enjoyment was, at the best of times, around average, that means 5/10, that it's watchable without feeling like it's a pain. Usually it was lower though. I'll just go for 4/10 for the overall score because it had promise and it had moments now and then that were watchable.
We also don't get any explanations for anything. People just mysteriously has powers but no one knows why. The guards thinks it's scary that the mc and the other people have powers, so does the inmates, but it's a fact that everyone is pretty much as powerful or more powerful than the mc and those people they experimented on. No matter who it is, they all have weird superpowers that no human can possibly have, but it seems they're blissfully ignorant of how they're freaks and monsters themselves whenever the author wants them to. If it was just a comedy anime, no one would care about the fact that nothing is explained, but since it wants to be serious, we need to know more, however, seems the author doesn't realize that like many other authors and fails to explain what needs to be explained. The power levels are also extremely dependant on whatever the author wants, there's nothing set. In one moment, they're so OP you'd think they could fight a demon king by themselves, the next moment they're so weak they would barely match up against a midboss and at other times, they're so weak they'd get their arse handed to them by the start village boss. Sometimes one character becomes weak and the rest becomes stronger. I absolutely despise it when authors can't keep power levels consistent and doesn't care enough to do so, feeling like it's okay to change it as he goes.
Oh, by the way the ending sucks more than anything I've seen lately. Guess what? It stops pretty much in the middle of everything. There's no conclusion whatsoever. We're left hanging in the middle of a climax, I'd say there's at least another several episodes left before we can see that particular dragged out battle ending. I guess they planned to make another season but failed. This garbage doesn't deserve a third season, so I hope they never make one, but it's still frustrating to painstakingly sit through this thing only to get left hanging in the middle of the action without even knowing who will win in a battle you just spent several episodes trudging through while feeling like dropping it the entire time just because you feel like you have to watch the rest when you've already come so far.

Pretty good anime, at least good enough to watch without feeling bored. There were a few laughs to be had here and there. I like most of the characters, although I pretty much hate hajime the guard, that bastard can go and die somewhere. I also dislike the female boss, she just can't stop being lovestruck all the time and it pisses me off, especially since I hate the one she likes.
The story is so-so, kinda average, nothing special at all. The art is pretty nice, I like the style although the colors feels a bit too flamboyant. The sound is great, well, at least
...
the opening song, I was really fond of that one. The characters are nice in some ways, at the very least they feel kinda unique, but I feel like too much effort was put into making them too extreme, the author should learn some moderation, medicine in great quantities becomes poison, that concept applies to pretty much everything in this world. Too much is never a good idea(well, at least in normal circumstances). Overall, my enjoyment was pretty nice for most of the anime.
What annoyed me the most here is that the author chose to screw up big time because he wants to put serious stuff and drama into the anime. It just DIDN'T work at all, it ruined the entire anime. Maybe I should've lowered my score even more, giving it a 7/10 is very generous considering the huge flaws. This show was never meant to be serious, at least it shouldn't have. The only good part is the comedy and interaction between the characters, but the decision to put drama, tragedy and whatever else into it as well and drag it out for WAY too long was a horrible one, utterly horrible. The real tragedy here is that they felt it was a good idea and thus murdered a show that could've been so much better.
This is especially the case since I couldn't care less about these characters, I'm used to extreme tragedies after reading certain stuff and this shit can't even make me feel anything at all. If I wanted drama and tragedy, I wouldn't watch a screwed up anime like this. I would watch a proper serious anime or read a manga or novel like that. Putting stuff like that into a f*cked up anime like that? Come on. That's like putting a bloody beef into your sweet, creamy cake. Who would want to eat that crap then? It's incompatible, it's either one or the other. Changing styles suddenly is just bullsh*t and always ruins things. Not saying comedy and tragedy/drama is always incompatible, but when it's done like this, it indeed is.
I saw that a lot of people say the second season is way worse and reduces the comedy a lot, well, I'll try to watch it and see if that's truly the case. If it is, I guess it's best to drop it fast because it's not worth watching. Well, to be fair, I guess that the manga version might actually be better. The serious parrts would be over quite quickly since you can speed read easily 10+ chapters in the time you watch one episode.

When judging something, you have to judge it for what it is, to judge it based on how good it is at the stuff it's trying to do, not how bad it is at what it was never trying to offer and was never supposed to be good at. This is one of the anime where this is extra obvious, yet some people still judge it based on such things.
I feel like this show is actually pretty good, it offers exactly what it is supposed to. There's a lot of comedy and gags all the time, there's nothing serious going on and it's very episodic,
...
meaning there's no real connection between anything and it's just separate scenes with short sketches. We don't get to know much about the characters except for what can be used as gags and this is just as it should be.
The comedy type here is kind of a mix of violence, sex/erotic jokes(usually stuff like seeing panties, girls getting embarrassed and violent, but also many other types) and some jokes where the characters do stupid or crazy things thats pretty much begs disbelief. I felt like it was pretty nicely done and I fully enjoyed the 40 or so minutes I spent watching this. Unlike some other people, I don't feel like the "fanservice"/"slightly erotic stuff" actually got in the way, I just felt it added to the show. It wasn't even anything crazy, every time something like that happened, it was just a setup for jokes and it's not as if it happened every ten seconds or anything. Fanservice usually has no purpose except being sexy and making teenagers horny, this wasn't like that at all. Unlike normal fanservice, it's also not unrealistic. The type of fanservice that pisses me off the most is the unrealistic crap, things like the idiot from to love ru who trips and strips people, that is, lucky pervert situations that happens too many times or in a too excessive way, or when womens clothes are destroyed in suggestive way in a fight for no reason or even more when women wear extremely skimpy clothing that is ridiculously impractical, like armor that looks more than bikinis than actual armor or just covers the area a bathing suit would, things that are obviously just to appeal to horny teenagers. Luckily nothing like that here.
So, I give it a 7/10, it fulfilled its purpose and made me laugh a few times. Since I felt like I wanted to watch at least an hour or two more of this stuff, I'd say it was good enough.

An OVA in the spirit of season 1 but with more focus on comedy. Really, nothing special to mention about it. There's no story at all and it's a typical OVA in that way. They go on two small adventures that has no purpose and seems to be there just to make the characters fool around for fun. It's just that nothing at all makes sense and it feels half-arsed. It was much better than season 2 though. At least it was slightly humorous.
It was a fairly nice OVA to end this whole story with, managing to rinse out at least a little bit of
...
the bad taste from season 2. You can watch this after season 1 or season 2 as there's nothing going on here and it has no relevance or connection to the main plot whatsoever. I personally assumed it was meant to be watched after season two because it was aired later than season 2, but the truth of the matter is that it's more fit to be watched after season 1 because it's in the same spirit as season 1 and if you watch it after season 2, you go a long while back in time to when they were still running around with the previous teams and it just feels out of sync. If I had to guess when this OVA actually transpires, it'd be somewhere in season 1, somewhere around the middle of that season, at least before the last battle in season 1 because characters are present that wouldn't be there otherwise.
