Hi, you add me as a friend or I add you as a friend, but I never got to chat with you! :D

What are your thoughts on the harem protagonist archetype and how it's portrayed in numerous shows?
Masanori-kun Jan 3, 2019 5:08 AM
Ah, so you are aware of how it starts, that's good. Be sure to watch the special episode released as a prologue for 0. It's basically the same episode as in the normal show, but the ending changes.

It also explains how Steins;Gate is achieved in the original show, I can't recommend it enough if you want to get an even better understanding of how it all came to be. And just how far Okabe is willing to go, such an excellent MC.

Yes very true, out of the top of my head I think only Code Geass transcends the ending of Steins;Gate in terms of narrative complexity and a set-out plan. But Steins;Gate is indeed genius like you proclaimed. It is hard to watch the psychological trauma inflicted on Okabe time and time again has no meaning for the rest of the cast in most cases. Every time he leaps back, it's the same story over again, but you slowly watch him crack.

Without spoiling anything, Steins;Gate 0 is almost an alternate route, on what would happen if he did crack. So you won't be able to get off your 'pain train' quite yet, if you decide to watch it. It's not as good as its predecessor, which is almost impossible, but it is still a blast to watch, and has a very similar feeling compared to the original.

Excellent, I think you'd enjoy Code Geass.

Good to hear another fellow fan of Steins;Gate. I presume you've also watched 0? If not, you definitely should if you enjoyed the original. Steins;Gate came out of nowhere the first time I watched it. 6 episodes in or something similar, I was wondering; "Is this it? It's not bad but I don't really follow what makes this so special." Then episode 11 or 12, I don't remember, hit and I was hooked from that point onwards. Masterful show.

That's an interesting way to watch anime, I'm sure it does give you a greater sense of what you might enjoy and what you might detest.

Well, I think it might've been personal, sometimes an anime just doesn't really click with you the way others might. To my shame I must admit that I never really felt a strong emotional connection with any of the characters in FMA, which can put a damper on most of the tension a show like that can portray.

I might rewatch it at some point, considering it's still overall rated as one of the strongest the medium has to offer. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it, but I didn't feel a connection like I had with Code Geass or Clannad and it wasn't nearly as entertaining to me as any of the Fate series gave me in pure balls-to-the-wall action.

I did enjoy UBW a ton, it's one of the few shows I've rewatched in its entirety. I guess I could make my next review about the show, although I do feel like I'd want to properly cover Zero first. Now that I've finished my first reviews on Code Geass, I feel like I want to keep this train going. If it's finisihed I'll give you a heads-up, that'll make my proper thoughts about UBW very clear.

Oh, I have a hard time concentrating on such a long show myself. Even FMA:Brotherhood started to lose my attention until it got interesting again after a while.

I think only Code Geass managed to have me watch 50 episodes within the timespan of a few days, but that's a rare exception.

I'm wondering, do you really watch that many shows at once? All a single episode as well. Might be that you're still working on it, but otherwise I'm interested to hear how you keep it up. If I don't focus on a few shows at most, I have a hard time continuing everything. Only when everything is literally 'airing' can I watch a lot at once, considering it's only one episode a week at most.

You seem to slowly accumulate a real profile there, good going. Interested to see your scores once you do decide to put them in.

Yes, Kiritsugu is my honest-to-god favourite. Pragmatical, steadfast and true to his own ideals and morality. Every scene he appeared in I was captivated by his persona.

Your profile picture amuses me, Goblin Slayer and Doomguy do have some striking similarities, that's for sure. I appreciate your contribution to my forum post. I've taken to providing the rest of the readers with the soundtrack you were talking about, if I guessed correctly. Indeed an atmospheric moment, truly worthy of praise. Boku no Hero Academia has an excellent OST in general, which certainly compliments the show quite well.

It’s time to ditch the text file.
