Reconguista in G has a lot going for it, but it's pretty messy in execution. It's animated extremely well, I never noticed any reused animation at all and there's a lot of little details in the animations that add a lot of energy to the show and breathe a lot of life into everything. I found the show to be energetic and generally focused on being fun which resulted in it staying entertaining throughout, even during the messiest points. My main problem with the show is its pacing, things move too fast for you to easily follow things properly sometimes. I also would like to
...
note the last few episodes are comparable like classic Gundam climaxes where war is shown with extreme brutality, which is surprising considering how everything up to that is relatively lighthearted like Turn A Gundam, but I really like this ending. Overall, this is worth watching if it's convenient to do so, otherwise it's not an essential Gundam series to watch. I still found this to be worth a watch.

After watching this through, I can confidently say that this is my favourite anime, Turn A Gundam resonated with me in a way that I haven't gotten from any other anime before.
The characters are fantastic here and absolutely live up to the Gundam franchise standards. The show is paced in a way that allows you to understand the characters and see them grow as they persevere through situations of varying intensity. It's not afraid to deal with relatively mundane situations, which makes a huge difference when compared to other Gundam series and I absolutely love it for this. Some people may think Turn A is
...
too silly, but aside from a few moments, I think the tone is really well balanced, having really impactful moments to keep things from being too silly. The pacing also never left me bored for the whole 50 episodes, which was surprising because usually shows as long as this tend to drag at some points.
The animation surprised me with how good it looks to this day, it's the best looking hand drawn anime T.V. show I've seen. I think I noticed only two minor instances of reused animation. There's even some CG mixed in at some points which looked pretty good and was used sparingly. It honestly is of movie quality in terms of animation. The art direction also seals the deal for me, it does a great job at showing off how beautiful nature is in the setting.
If I were to complain about one thing, it would be that the next episode previews can sometimes reveal too much about the next episode. Getting spoiled, even if it's minor, takes away from the experience and makes things less interesting. But this is only a minor problem that's easily avoided.
It's hard to specify what makes this show so amazing, I can't think of any proper comparisons for it, but know that it is well worth experiencing. I have never loved a T.V. series as much as watching Turn A Gundam.

An extremely disappointing sequel to the great first season. I honestly see little point in this season existing, but it at least wasn't boring. There are a lot of genuinely good ideas here, but their execution is lacking, which makes it disappointing even off of its own merits. I would like to note that I watched the HD remaster.
I would also like to note that I was lucky enough to watch the fan edit that combined the old English dub with the newer HD-remaster. This English dub was very good and, like the standard definition English dub of Gundam Seed, I preferred it over the
...
Japanese voices. If you can watch the show with theis dub, then I recommend you give it a try, assuming you're already familiar with the old dub from Gundam Seed, because this is done by the same people.
There are a lot of issues with Seed Destiny, the most noticeable problem is the absurd amount of animation reuse. The reuse extends even to animation from the first season and only gets more and more annoying as the season goes on, it actively made me roll my eyes regularly. The animation causes most battles to feel identical because of this, I swear there are some battles that mostly consist of reused animation re-edited into a different scene, which is just pathetic. This show will also use flashback animations as much as possible which I found pretty obnoxious, it feels like the anime staff were trying to do anything but animate the fucking show.
The series also has an unbalanced cast of characters, it introduces too many characters and takes far too long to develop them if they even get any development at all. One of the main characters, Shinn, is pretty insufferable most of the time. Much of his ideals are interesting, but his personality makes him anything but likeable. It also feels like Shinn had to be an extremely pathetic person for the plot to even happen in the first place, if he wasn't an obnoxious asshole this season might've been mercifully short. One character in particular was introduced only to die an episode later for dramatic effect, but they use his death to force drama between characters that already overcame this exact same fucking drama in the first season. I found things like this to be insulting to watch as a fan of Gundam Seed, this utterly lacks the tightly written characters and story that show had.
There aren't many things I like about this season, as most interesting things eventually become uninteresting before they finish. I will say that I like the inclusion of chairman Durandal as a character, he is probably the most interesting character in this season. I also think I like the shift in focus to Athrun as the main character, instead of Kira, the last season's main character.
Similar to Gundam Seed, a lot of effort was put into the recap episodes, they edit the recap into the story to the point that it makes sense that they would mention the old stuff while adding new stuff on top of it. This comes as a double edged sword, because it makes the recap episodes not as boring, but also means you can't skip them entirely because there is some new content in those episodes that you will miss if you do. One of the main characters, chairman Durandal, is given a lot of development during a recap episode, which I imagine many people would've missed by skipping the episode.
Honestly, I've seen worse, but Gundam Seed Destiny is still a huge mess. I'm mostly just disappointed because of how great Seed was. It might be worth a watch if you like Seed but don't expect it to be good, I struggle to recommend this in good faith.

The Mobile Suit Gundam novel trilogy is very much non-cannon, but it's genuinely great and brings a lot of interesting things to the table.
I would like to talk about how drastically different to the original series, they're almost entirely different aside from similar characters and plot points. The characters don't even go to Earth at all in the novels, and end up feeling more to the point than the movie trilogy did. I can't complain about any of the differences because they are so drastic to the point of being completely different stories. My favourite difference the novels have is its insight on characters' minds
...
that adds much depth to them. I was surprised by how much more interesting the characters get from this, I'd like to note how this affects Gihren, who becomes significantly more interesting from just one paragraph of him thinking about his plans after the war ends.
These novels explore Newtypes a lot more than the anime version, which is one of the more interesting things about them. It adds so much insight into the Newtypes themselves with even more characters who are Newtypes themselves. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't get into the little things, also, Newtype stuff is complex and hard to accurately describe.
The novels do maintain the high standard of quality I tend to associate with the Gundam franchise as a whole, I even think this surpasses the original Gundam T.V. show and movie trilogy in terms of overall quality, due to its greater focus and smoother pacing on top of the added depth of the characters. It is absolutely not cannon and not essential to read, but its insight into characters and Newtypes on top of being a genuinely great read makes it well worth a read for fans of the franchise. I feel that these novels deserve more recognition and highly recommend it.

Char's Counterattack offers a unique experience that can't be fully appreciated upon just the first viewing. I'm not saying it's bad, but it's far too overwhelming for a first-time viewer to follow.
When I first saw the film, my main problem was with its lack of context on events combined with its breakneck pace. Upon my most recent viewing I didn't have to worry about the lack of context because I already knew what happens, this made the it not too overwhelming and actually quite enjoyable. It's never boring, almost the entire film feels like a climax to an entire Gundam series which is an awesome
...
feeling to nail down over the course of an entire film.
It's hard to talk about any aspect of this film without also mentioning how fast everything is, the action is one of those aspects, and the speed upgrade is great. There is an excitement and intensity this film offers that neither the original Gundam, Zeta, or ZZ can compare with. But this speed also means the viewer has to keep up, on my first viewing I actually didn't like the action because I couldn't keep up, but now I think it's great. I'd like to point out that the duel at the end between Amuro and Char in particular is one of my favourite action scenes in all of Gundam. I don't want to spoil anything but I'll say I found the ending to be very satisfying and emotional.
Overall, Char's Counterattack is a good film, but it's hard to get into. I think many of the same aspects that made me not care for it initially changed on my second viewing to be aspects that I found very unique and noteworthy when compared to other films. It could've still used a longer runtime to further develop it's new additions, but what we've got here is more than enough to leave me satisfied.

This is one of my favourite Gundam series. It's also worth noting that I have a fair amount of nostalgia for this show and have a positive bias as a result.
What stands out most to me about SEED from all other Gundam series is the character drama being much more prevalent, this brings so much more emotion to the show and makes the cast of characters so much richer than any other anime I've ever seen. I love the character dynamics between characters like Kira and Athrun as well as Mu La Flaga and Rau Le Creuset so much I feel I have to mention
...
them specifically. Of course the war aspect delivers, this show can be absolutely brutal and depressing in its portrayal of war, I love it. I also love the parallels this show makes to previous Gundam series while still deeling completely different; its overall sequence of events is parallel to the original Gundam series, has a moment very similar to The 08th MS Team, and I feel as if the character Mu La Flaga is heavily inspired by Char from Zeta Gundam. But the way these callbacks are done don't feel like rehashes, it transforms previous aspects of Gundam that I love and makes something amazing out of it, the staff's love of Gundam shows here and enhances the whole experience.
I don't have many problems with this series, but I have some minor issues with the animation. There's a fair amount of reused animation throughout the show, and I feel it reused more animation towards the end where it started to become a problem, but most of the time I didn't mind. It does result in the battles having little visual variety which may kill the excitement for some people.
I have seen both the HD remaster and the original standard definition version and can say both versions are great overall. I have one issue with the HD remaster where there are shots that are just zoomed in versions of shots from the original standard-definition version of the show, where the visual quality notably lowered, which is pretty distracting. But other than that, I can't think of any notable differences between the two versions. The big thing that I really like about the standard definition version is its English dub, it's a great dub and I enjoyed this more than the HD remaster with English subtitles. It did have a few lines with awkward delivery, but those are rare and everything else is performed very well. I can't comment on the HD remaster's English dub because I haven't seen it, but I've heard nothing but bad things about it, which is a damn shame. Unfortunately the only way to see the old version of this show that I know of is to get the collector's ultra edition (which I have and can say is a fantastic collection) or old DVDs, both of which are unreasonably expensive just to watch the show. Basically, you're probably just better off watching the HD remaster because it's way easier to access thanks to the poor preservation of the original standard definition version of this show.
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED brings the heat in the main areas that matter to me. The drama is fantastic and emotionally impactful, the scale of the war is fantastically grand and politically interesting, and the way it references the older Gundam series is simply beautiful. Even the problems I have with the animation are far from ruining even individual episodes for me. I absolutely love this series and cannot recommend it enough. The old English dub of this show deserves to be preserved much better than it has, it's actually a crime how it has been nearly erased from the internet.

Despite a jarring change in tone to a more goofy series for the first 20-ish episodes, Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ manages to comeback from that and become a worthwhile Gundam entry.
The initial focus on being a more lighthearted goofy show may have been there to emphasize how war changes people's lives once things get more serious later in the series, but it's still hard to defend this part. I think there's a good amount of energy, but it just drags on for way too long.
Once the show gets more serious it starts to come into it's own, but it still feels just a little too
...
silly for its own good at times. The characters become much more interesting and the shows improvements over Zeta become more apparent. The things I think ZZ did better than Zeta mainly come down to the energy and pacing; the battles no longer feel as repetitive (once the show stops goofing around, that is), it's overall more exciting to watch, and it also didn't feel as if they skipped important scenes just to fit everything in an episode. I will say that Zeta's story and characters are still better than ZZ, but it's very much worth noting that ZZ fixes many of the problems I had with Zeta. Other than this comparison to Zeta and the strange start, ZZ very much fits the Gundam franchise standards. I would also like to gush about how well they handled the remaining characters from Zeta, especially Kamille, who's scenes are easily my favourite in all of ZZ.
If the show didn't take so long to get it's shit together, I think it would overall be a tiny bit better than Zeta, but that rough start is what cripples this show and provides a barrier that you'll have to get over if you want to enjoy it. But ZZ provides some much needed closure to Zeta, making it essential to watch in my opinion if you liked Zeta.

Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam is a series that has has some amazing content, but is frequently bogged down in a variety of areas, preventing it from reaching its full potential. However, in the moments where it reaches that potential it is one of the best shows I've ever seen.
I hate to shit on an anime as old as this, but the animation is one of the factors that brings this series down for me. The battles are rarely visually interesting and most of them meld together for me, making it often hard to remember specific battles throughout the series. It also doesn't help that many
...
of the battles end in nobody dying, I lost count of the times Kamille and Jerid fought eachother without one of them managing to die, having the same outcome repeated so many times takes away the tension and excitement I want in the battles (there are a number of other characters who die throughout the series, but Kamille and Jerid fight way too often to not have killed eachother in my opinion). Also it feels like some episodes had to remove scenes to fit the 30 minute T.V. time slot, sometimes things happen off screen and left me confused. I also feel there are political aspects to the setting that are glossed over too much, things like the Titans and the A.E.U.G. were not explained well enough for me to follow as well as I'd have liked. Also the next episode previews reveal way too much about the next episode to the point of spoiling most of it. It also feels like they sacrificed some of their integrity to sell more toys, new mobile suits and mobile armours are constantly introduced, but they don't serve much purpose to the story and just come off as pointless.
While what I've said so far is pretty harsh, it's with the characters and story where this series is at its best. The characters are really interesting and often are put through hell so the show can explore their minds when the war pushes them mentally in various ways. I especially love what they did with Char and Amuro from the first series, every episode with Amuro in it was a high point for the series in my opinion. I also thought it was brilliant how they handled Char's relationship with the remnants of Zeon, this plot portion probably couldn't have been done better to be honest. We also see the a lot more of newtypes in this, especially with Kamille, and this aspect was executed extremely well. There are quite a few cyber-newtypes as well who are all one of the more interesting aspects of the story. I would also just like to say that the ending really was something else that hit me really hard.
Overall, while often sloppily executed and with dated animation, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam manages to be an extremely impactful series with its story and characters being unique and extremely interesting, it's definitely worth watching as long as you're familiar with the first Gundam series beforehand.

A brutal showcase of war from the perspective of the front line, I don't think I've seen a Gundam installment as dark as this one, at least not for a small scale conflict. It keeps up a strong pace, especially considering it's a compilation of previously existing episodes. The animation is also very good, I didn't notice any reused animations and everything was easy to follow and pretty detailed. The music is one of the more standout aspects of this film with each of the main characters having their own recognizable genre of music that they listen to, the Jazz music in particular complemented the
...
chaotic nature of Io's action scenes which I really liked. But the most interesting aspect of this film is how disturbing the everything is, it's really dark and does a great job at conveying the feeling of a drawn out battle where both sides are desperate and on their last legs. What I also noticed is that there really is no need to watch any other Gundam series to get context on this film, it works very well as its own standalone story. If you can find a way to watch it then I'd recommend you give it a watch.

An amazing way to end an amazing series, I'm tearing up after seeing the end of this franchise I love dearly. Gintama stays true to itself to the very end, and this movie feels like a celebration of the series as a whole. I really liked the soundtrack which incorporates some of the series' classic songs in great ways, I even got emotional when DOES started playing. The movie feels well paced to me, I especially liked how they took their time with the epilogue. This movie's quality is consistent with the quality I've come to expect from the series, just with better production quality
...
and pacing due to it being a movie, making it feel like another episode of the show. But if you've seen all the episodes, you'd be foolish to not watch the final of this irreplaceable series. I just wanted to get my feelings out about Gintama, as this series means a lot to me.
