Anime is the closest to novels in storytelling. Nearly all American cartoons tend to lack on character development and an a good plot. This is where Anime is very good at. You can tell that much time and energy is spend on an character and the plots are also, in my opinion, amazingly well thought in Anime. I always watch the subbed versions of Anime because there is more emotion in the Japanese voices. They understand the characters en story better than the American voice actors do.
