How can Hero be disappointment for the old fans, if it's actually catering exactly to them?
It's correcting the huge mistake that was BorN, changing the events for the better and how they should have been in the first place.
Hard to say what's going to follow, but as for this single episode it was definitely an improvement

DxD episode was a retcon episode. They corrected the filler episodes and bits and pieces from last season. Episode 8 and up and matched it with the light novel. In other words, this is how season 3 last bit was supposed to be, and it was a good move to fix them, before maybe a potential problem could arise in future episodes/season.

Also, always nice to meet a fellow DxD fan! :)
